Kinda O/T, I got a new job!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by nate, Apr 28, 2005.

  1. So,

Some of you guys know Jeff (chopperdaddy) and I got our walking papers a couple months ago, but all is good now cause I got a new job.

I am the new exhibit tech and designer for the Kansas State Historical Society. My duties include a bunch of design and fabrication for displays, some upkeep, and fixing one of the curator's coat racks (apparently)

It's a cool museum, we do have a 1933 Chevrolet Eagle:

And the Cyrus K. Holliday, a locomotive built in 1868:

This afternoon I'm fabbing some br*** mounts to display a Sharps Rifle and some other stuff for the freestate display. Somehow I'm going to work out a way for this job to benefit the hotrodding stuff.

Congrats on the new gig Nate.

I would think that would be a great job to have for anyone that is artistically inclined.

    Best of luck,
    George

  5. Congrats on the new job, I saw it listed on the job vacancy list. So your working out off of Wanamaker huh? Cool, welcome to employment with the State of Kansas, I work at KPERS downtown, been with the State 15years, **** that seems like a long time. I haven't been out to the museum in quite a while. I've heard they only have about 1/8 of everything displayed, they have any cool stuff in the warehouse?

PS My favorite piece in the museum is the neon MR. Speedy from the first McD's here in town, it was out on South Topeka Blvd.

  6. Yeah, mr speedy is cool, eh have a hard time keeping his old neon lit though. I did get to climb up in the train and change the main light yesterday, that was cool. I havn't had a chance to look through the storage but yeah, there's a lot of it.

raven, I don't think there is anything open now, but if I hear of something I'll let you know.

    Congrats on the new job!

    Looks like fun.

Maybe I can get the keys to the old steam locomotive here in Abilene and you can bring the Cyrus and we'll race 'em!

  12. Nate you might have to lay a little rail out to the mainline North of the river.

"Can you swing a hammer, boy"

Whatever you do, don't race him with that old Farmall, is that a regular or a F-20??

Congrats on the new gig. Now get a drawing son! Haha!

  16. Damn Zach, don't rat me out, I work in the computer room anyway, so it's not like I've got a bunch of people looking over my shoulder all day.

We all ought to get together sometime this summer and have a cookout or something, I know of another Hamber in Topeka, JasonK, haven't met him or anyone else yet. Maybe caravan out to Salina for the KKOA in July. Anyone?

PS Nate, is there still a gal working at the musuem in the education section by the name of Joy?, just curious.
