    Yes.

The HAMB concentrates on Traditional Hot Rods and Traditional Customs.

Not on all things that make hot rodding warm and cozy...

I'm not here to tell you guys how to run your site, and I realize that since I'm a newb I am likely to be bashed for this... but that is the most rediculous thing I have ever read. That one thread was really something and brought A LOT of traffic to your site. If you type 'Hot Rod Radio Flyer' into Google, HAMB is the fisrt (and most substantial by a long shot) link. So what if there is one (or three) Off Topic threads about something that clearly was interesting to the community. I am sure there have been threads about tattoos, beer and motorcycles...

Whatever... I like this place, and hope to stick around, but I liked it better when I thought you were a bit more open-minded. Guess I cannot contribute until I have a 'real' hot rod.

    Really?

Everything has to be that ship-shape? There is no place for off topic conversation about things here? Cars, and that's it?

I guess this is not quite the community I thought it was.

    Cheers.

Yea well if you had a open mind then maybe you would see the big picture with the HAMB.
There are over 145,000 members and if we allow each guy to have one off topic post , then it really wouldn't stay a Traditional Hot Rods and Custom car web site now would it ?

You don't have to have a real Hot Rod smart ass to be here but don't share your
2: VW or 1 :MB - there are other sites for that.

Glad you like the HAMB - Why don't you just observe for a while..........

Would you like Ryan the website owner to close your account ?

No, I'll fall in line... if you don't mind. Didn't mean to get anyone all hot and bothered. I have found the other sites, as you have mentioned for the things I currently drive, but as I aspire to one day own something else... I would hate to burn that bridge just yet... :D

    We're not hot and bothered...

But to keep the focus of this site where it belongs, we have to tap on the brakes every once in a while.

    Thats all....
    These are just Editorial decissions.

Sorry to disappoint, but I hope you'll enjoy the HAMB anyway.

Well clearly you guys are doing it right. I mean you don't get to 130K members without knowing what you are doing (or stepping on a few toes) but you might want to consider an 'Off Topic' or 'Lounge' area... You might find you guys have a few more things in common and make some e-friends... Who couldn't use more friends, eh?

Anyway... I'll drop it, but as a member or moderator of many sites myself for the better part of 10 years, just trying to help.

On this topic (for Ryan & Metalshapes) is it still "acceptable" to start a thread with OT in the topic, as long as it parallels our... um, lifestyle?

Not rocking the boat here (and I don't want to start a Radio Flyer thread) but I recently posted what I feel is a relevant thread but not entirely "on topic." I know I'm throwing my own thread out there to possibly get shut down, but I'd rather offer my thread as an example for myself and others to learn from whether it's acceptable or not.

Here's my thread in question. If it's too off-topic I'll happily remove it, but thought I did it right. Please let me know. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6676890#post6676890

No man - anyone and everyone that reads this - if you have to title your post O/T then it's best NOT to post it. Send a private message to a moderator FIRST to see if it is ok to post.
That actually is mentioned in the First post of the main HAMB page.

If it has nothing to do with Traditional Hot Rods or Custom Cars then it really shoudn't be posted.... WHEN IN DOUBT - Ask First before posting - Please

    No, sorry.

If its Off Topic, then putting O/T in the Title doesnt help it.

I dont really have an opinion about your pinstripe thread.
One of the Art Mods will know what to do with that one...

Should I remove my post? Is it borderline? Is it acceptable?

Thanks guys. I guess I'll wait and see if it gets closed then, or if a mod asks me to remove it I'll do so.

Thanks for the input. It's been a long time since I read the rules, I'll go back and read them now just to brush up.

There is alraedy a off topic/loung area sort of, it's called a Social Group you can find it in the Community section top of the page, main board. There you can start or find a Radio Flyer social group. by the way there is already a group started that you may join if they let you. It is called Wagond n` Pedal Cars !! Cuz Kids Can Drive Too!! .... here is the link to it... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=grouplist

Can I suggest that instead of simply locking a thread that the moderator step inane make a helpful comment like the last post? I was not aware of the strict guidelines for topics OR the social groups here, and I am sure there are others. It might be nice to be given a heads up, and a nice re-direct...

Maybe a group will rise up, but the contrast is pretty glaring. 2 groups, 20 members, one discussion and 10 pictures -vs- a five year old thread with almost 450 posts...

Did you read this first, like the title says?

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44274

You'll even be able to find the sentence inthere, that I borrowed from Ryan.
( the most rediculous thing you ever read...:D)

    Edit.

    Another thing is...

Looking at your post history, it shows you did a couple of posts on a thread that is now closed, and the rest of your posts are here complaining about that.

In other words, you have contributed nothing of value to this site yet.

It would probably be better if you go back to reading and get more familiar with the site.
And get back to posting when you have learned what is On Topic and Relevant to the HAMB.
