TO ALL MY FRIENDS HERE AT THE H.A.M.B...

PROLIFIC ROD & CUSTOM DESIGNER/ILLUSTRATOR, STEVE STANFORD, created a Phantom 3-Window Ford Shoebox in an early-1990's magazine showcase. Rod & Custom Legend, Billy F Gibbons, took the idea seriously and had Pete Chapouris & his crew build him one ! It became one of the most talked-about cars in the Industry.

Steve's an old St. Louis Boy, like myself, and in this late-night Interview, after Steve's Induction into Darryl Starbird's National Rod & Custom Hall Of Fame, Steve & I had some fun, talked about Billy, Billy's car - "KOPPERHED" - and wound up with some words of advice from Steve.

Wanna' hear it now ? Okay, just click-on the Link, listen and enjoy !

  2. Steve's a true talent. He's done a few renderings for me through the years. First one's from around 1980

Very kool!! On my way to listen to the interview. Steve Stanford is my favorite
Designer/Illustrator. God has blessed him with a great talent and I'm glad that
he is willing to share it with us.

Be sure to checkout the article in the latest SRP magazine. It is a good read and
includes some kool art work. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Love this pictue of Augie's Chevy.

Got to chit chat with Stanford last weekend. Never, ever, met a man who could stripe, letter, sketch, illustrate and airbrush with such mastery. Couple these skills with having "the eye" for cool concepts and designs and man, that's just an unreal combination!

I kan't wait to hear more of the interview...

This is what I scanned from the latest issue of SRP. I've already said it before but the
magazine is worth buying just for the article. This is just another Stanford designed
cars that need to be built...

Steve is one of the reasons I became a car designer. Had a bunch of his illustrations cut out from mags hanging on my walls when I was a kid in the 80's-early 90's. A true artisan.

I forgot about the April, 2008 HOT ROD Magazine with the "THE NEW AMC" Illustrations.
That issue fooled a lot of guys.

The 41 ford that Steve is doing was for me , the chop is almost done and we will start on the front end as soon I find as 47 cad grille. Steve is so great to work with, he on the same page and knows what looks good.

Steve's the best! What a talent!!! Love to see a Steve Stanford thread...

  19. I've known Steve for years, and he's a great guy. He's so talented, but there's not an arrogant bone in his body. He's the nicest, most bashful person you could ever meet. Honestly, he gets really embarrassed when you give him a truly deserved compliment.

I've had a few lengthy design discussions and idea sessions with him, and everytime, I left with my head spinning. That guy bounced so many cool ideas off of me that I was ready to go rob Fort Knox just to afford them all. I always hear from folks that Chip Foose is the most prolific designer in the business. No disprespect to Chip, but to me, Steve Stanford is the best there is.

I have always felt that it's been an injustice that Steve has never gotten the respect he truly deserves.

Man, I hear ya, but I don't think that's the case at all. I'd guarantee that 99% (probably 100%) of the people who dig on hot rod illustration absolutely LOVE Stanford's stuff. Maybe you're factoring in too much of the Foose phenomenon? Foose's path has been anything but standard or typical, he's become a household name.

I met Steve in Santa Maria a few years back. I told him he was my idol, he told me I need to raise my standards. Great guy and one of the best with a brush.
