I was at the father's day cruise this last weekend and was really impressed with this 1950 Merc. I talked to the owner and he said he had recently purchased the car and was told that it was an old Sam Barris chop. His friend was going to call and see if George Barris could confirm the cars history. I was really impressed with the smooth chop and the color--kind of an orange cream . Hope this works--my first photos.
great car. I bet those rear wheels are a ***** to get off. Looks like you have to pull the whole lower quarter Fantastic chop though...great flow
Hmm, wonder where it is from, saw it at a little show here in Redding. I took a photo of it for my girl, it is her dream car, and I agree the car is just about perfect.
Here's a front shot. The car's owner said it had an olds engine and I noticed a power brake booster and master on the firewall--probably 70's vintage. The owner said he bought the car and didn't know much about the build when I was trying to get some additional info--he buys and sells cars.
so how much is he looking to get out of it and did you get phone number?-wheeler does not really care about history, but like to throw out Barris name to bump price-does look good
As far as I know all the Sam Barris mercs are accounted for. its a nice ride but Briz bumpers ? frenched headlites with no trim ring inside the bucket, alittle new style for a barris car. its a stunning ride well done and nicer then any car I have ever owned and I mean NO DISRESPECT but it looks more like a winfield car that I would buy !
Was the owner the guy in the white hat and shirt in the photo? Here is the photo I took of it here in Redding with my cell phone.
looks a little off to me. ch***is swap???? wheels don't really fit in the wheelwells. if I found a giant bag full of money that would not be the merc I'd buy.
When did he buy the Merc? I thought there was one like it running around in Texas. I would see it at the KKOA shows in Denison. I might be wrong, but I may be right.. Wish they would do away with the bumpers. Happy Trails, Mick
I would guess the car is running bags and it is sitting dropped which would make the wheels sit that way in the wheelwells. The one thing I noticed was the body line from door to body is off a bit, but the car looked great out in the sun.
Rusty Yes, that's the owner in the white hat. Said he doesn't build cars anymore--can make more money buying and selling.
