So I get over to the garage where I'm working on my pickup, some primed, some open and exposed and some in bare metal and I find a quarter inch of sand and dirt on everything. I cannot freakin believe this ****! Now I may need to resand all bare surfaces, will need to try to dig the sand out of my interior, and the primed surfaces are so scratched and dirty I may need to reprep and prime everything again. Any inconsiderate idiots ruining your projects lately! I'm seeing red... this guy us a buffoon. Next time I see his lame a--...

That ****s, did you know about this construction? If so, you should have moved or covered it.

He had a pile of sand that he was using to backfill that was about 20 yards from my truck and around the corner of the 2 story garage. When I got there yesterday afternoon the pile was 10 feet from my truck. He also KNOWS that I'm working on it, we've had discussions, and I have a pile of tarps nearby and asked him to use them if he needed to cover anything. The shop I'm using is on family property.

I had same thing happen to me about a year ago. They put new surface on the street next to my house. Someone gave the order to use a blower to clean the street ,the dust was so bad that they had to clean the roof of my house and all the sidewalks and plants with water . I told them I would call the local building dept. If you didn't know there are very strict environmental rules about dust control and heavy fines. Give the person responsible a call make him fix the problem or you can call your nearest building dept. It worked for me.

I live in a very rural area...I'm sure there are no dust regulations out here. The bottom line is that he was negligent and I'll have to pay for it. I mean, primer is porous and this sand and dust was damp, and to ensure that moisture didn't seep through I'll be redoing everything.

  9. Thats a tad kneejerk:rolleyes: What do you SAND the primer with anyway? And when you WETSAND? If it is just dust and sand that drifted, carefully blow it away and wash. Some damp sand on your primer is not going to make it start rusting away.

i'd have words with him about the lack of respect but other than having to blow it off you might be making a mountain out of a sand hill....

Don't feel too bad, my girlfriend gets cranky when we're at the beach and she gets sand in her you -know-what too. Just wash it out real good, blow off the truck, and carry on. Pretty sure the shop was not surgically sterile before the incident either.

Just be glad that you don't live in the middle of a 70 acre field that currently is in corn but the farmer who rents it can always manage to disk when the wind is blowing at the shop. Inside or outside there is always a layer of dust on my vehicles and parts unless I cover the parts. I think this is where you put your big boy pants on and move on with it and remember to cover it up next time.

in this sentence, "it" refers to a ******. Step by step instructions would be
    1) Wash out ******
    2) Blow dust off truck
    3) Proceed with life

Lol my primed parts are sitting in a barn getting dirt on them right now, don't have anywhere better to put them. Just blow it off and your truck will be fine. Give yourself a minute to cool down before you talk to the person responsible.

What am I missing here ? There is construction going on 60 feet away, you know there is a potential for a problem because you mention the tarps, and is your very precious project stored outside...sounds like it from your post. 1/4 inch of dust ?? come on ! It is your responsibility to protect your project, so you really should be pissed at yourself.

I understand your frustration, however since the car was outside and uncovered (by you) part of the responsibility lies on your shoulders. Yes, it would have been mighty white of him to cover it up before he started slingin' dirt around, but you should have seen it comming. What if bad weather had mucked it up? Are you going to call out mother nature? If you are going to leave your car outside, don't trust anybody but yourself to take care of it.

Be careful about calling the authorities to rat someone out that violated "enviornmental rules" when you are building cars, especially in California where all the law makers seem to really hate cars. It could come back to haunt you.
