Opinions are like Behinds ...Most folks GOT one !!!!......besides lookin' down on other folks ain't cool......OLDS parts in these ''parts'' are right hard ta find....We drive our cars and I like the availablity of parts in strange towns on Sat afternoon...So it ''dudn't ''matter what kinda dressin' ya have on the ole SBC, it's still a Chevy at the parts house ...And your on yo way !!!
Kind of like those she males in Tijuana, advertising something totally different than whats really under the cover.
You know your right I do have it made. I have my kustom. I have my wife of 45 years. I'm retaired and i'm virtical. What a great life.
Im amazed at how many different opinions there are on something so relatively minor.....I put them on my 41 merc because Ive grown tired of seeing the same ole SBC in 90 percent of the cars. However, since the merc already had a chevy in it....I "disguised" it....lets dont forget the cadillac air cleaner that says mercury on it either, or the ford 8N radiator cap........Geeeeesh....who the hell cares....I get tickled at the bench racers at the car shows trying to figure out what year olds ive got in it.....now if you REALLY wanna get wound up....look at the OTHER pictures
I am actually thinking about putting Chevy rocker covers on my Olds. I want everyone to think I got a 454.
They go especially well with the HEI distributor, the polished 1 wire alternator, and the plastic electric fan.
I know I'm pushing my olds hard to get it to rap 5 grand. Does that mean a chevy with olds valve covers will only rap 5 grand also.
Chebbies in non-Chebbies are like we say about Case backhoes on a construction site- Case stands for "Can't Afford Something Else"
When i think of CASE I think of CASE brand Knives.... case stands for Cuts *** Sooo Easyyy! atleast thats what a backwoods fella here in SC told me
I have a 1958 mag with a SBC with continental valve covers on it;kind of blows its not traditional thing out the window. I'll try to find it and post pics.
I see what you did there... I don't think it's really the same thing, though. If you're going to put a motor in your ride, you should be proud of what you're putting in there. If you put an SBC in your car, put it in and have fun with it. I think traditional-looking SBC's can look great- don't try to fool people into thinking you have something you don't, it just reaks of poser. Now on the other hand, maybe the people who put Fauxmobile valve covers on their SBC's just like the way they look. I couldn't tell you. As a rule of thumb, I dislike anything that's "faux." It's different with hubcaps, as that's a much more aesthetic item, in the hopes of changing the appearance of the vehicle rather than the drivetrain of the vehicle. It has to do with pride. If you put a SBC in your car, be proud of that Chevy power! If you put Caddy hubcaps on your Ford, it's ok.
So your saying my old man putting lancers on his 34 ford was a poser wishing he had a mopar?? Some things I read on here are unbelievable... But most is good shiznit
While we're having fun with fake stuff - what about superchargers with no 'guts' in them or multiple carbs with block-off plates under all but one of them?
the idea of olds valve covers on a chevy ****s, this is just another way for the gold chain croud to be even more phony
Off this thread's topic, but actually in the early days of customizing, this WAS the case! The early customizers used parts (grills, taillights, hubcaps) off more expensive cars (Caddys, Buicks) to make their cheaper cars (Chevy, Ford) look more expensive, or fool people into thinking it was the more expensive car, or a coachbuilt car.
We laugh at each other on these things but most likely the mouthbreathing hords won't know the difference anyhow. And if you pulled the sbc out of certain 77 Olds sedans it would technically be an "Olds" engine as the numbers stamped on it would attest to that. When they had problems at the Olds engine plant in 77 guess what engines got put in a lot of Oldsmobiles? My aunt got a $200 refund from GM because of that back then. From Wikipedia The soaring popularity of Oldsmobile vehicles resulted in a major issue in the late 1970s. At that time, each General Motors division produced its own V8 engines, and in 1977, Oldsmobile, Chevrolet, Pontiac and Buick each produced a unique 350 cubic inch displacement V8. It was during the 1977 model year that demand exceeded production capacity for the Oldsmobile V8, and as a result Oldsmobile began equipping most full size Delta 88 models (those with Federal emissions specifications) with the Chevrolet 350 engine instead. Although it was widely debated whether there was a difference in quality or performance between the two engines, there was no question that the engines were different from one another. Many customers were loyal Oldsmobile buyers who specifically wanted the Rocket V8, and did not discover that their vehicle had the Chevrolet engine until they performed maintenance and discovered that purchased parts did not fit. This became a public relations nightmare for GM.[1][2] Following this debacle, disclaimers stating that "Oldsmobiles are equipped with engines produced by various GM divisions" were tacked on to adverti*****ts and sales literature; all other GM divisions followed suit. In addition, GM quickly stopped ***ociating engines with particular divisions, and to this day all GM engines are produced by "GM Powertrain" (GMPT) and are called GM "Corporate" engines instead of GM "Division" engines. Although it was the popularity of the Oldsmobile division vehicles that prompted this change, declining sales of V8 engines would have made this change inevitable as all but the Chevrolet version of the 350 cubic inch engine were eventually dropped.
This is such a pathetic post ... I am not running the "faux" Olds covers on a SBC ... but I could and it would be "correct" in my case. My car is a '38 Olds coupe and the engine I installed (a "corporate" 305") was removed from an '84 Olds Cutl***. You know what I really hate ... when people put Holley stickers on their car windows ... jeeze, EVERYONE knows Holley never made car windows.
Don't forget the folks who bought TransAms of that vintage and then discovered they had 403 Olds engines instead of a 400 Poncho
