I used an MSD set-up (distributor, 6AL box, and coil) on a 276 '50 Merc I had in my '36 three window. It worked great. The only drawback was the spark was so hot, it would eat through a cap in 2-3K miles.

Yah man the GMC bubba distributer is a small block chevy points distributer that he machines down to fit. It works great and you can get parts anywhere, its also half the price of a mallory.

I used something a little different in my late flattie...a distributor from a late 80's Jeep Wagoneer with the 360 motor. If you look at one closely, it's basically a Ford Duraspark distributor EXCEPT it turns in the opposite direction from a Ford one which is what the flathead needs. The internals are identical to the Ford parts. You would need access to a small lathe to do some minor turning on the base of the housing and to make an adapter shaft. The housing diameter where it goes into the timing cover is the same as the flathead part (1 1/16" as I recall), but the timing cover will need to be reamed on through to that size. The thing I like best about it is it almost looks like the original and I can get the parts including the ignition module at any parts store (NAPA TP-40 is the ticket for the module).
    Check it out!

got my dizzy in from bubbas a couple days ago, super stoked to get it in, looks nice, but im still cleaning up the frame before i wire the truck. looking at 2-3 weeks before i get her going. Got some questions on installing it... i know i should find TDC #1 piston on compression stroke, how did you guys find it on a flathead? this is my first one so.... probably just overthinking it since i havent even really played with it yet...
