Hi guys... I'm with my first project, a 32 ch***is (high boy), definitely I have serious doubts, the first is about the front suspension, I want use a 39 ford front axle with a Model A cross member... $$$ It´s for the money only!!! My questions ... If I use the front 39 I-beam, to lower the car, must have use a suspension as the rolling bones style, would not be another option to use a dropped axle? I would not spend money on dropped axle because it would also have to pay shipping and I have a difference of 4 to 1 in reference dollar an my local money! How many inches would be the front? using the the Rolling Bones suspension style... On the back would like to use a 39 banjo, don´t know if using the stock 32 rear member, a Model A or use a flattened one... because I don´t know how high the car will stay, and what spring can use? Thank´s Leandro
You are in Argentina where there are lots of skilled people. You could have the '39 (or a '32) front axle dropped like they used to do. In the past the cheaper option was to relocate the front crossmember much higher up in the grill. You can use a '39 rear axle but should use a 32-34 rear spring as it'll fit in the crossmember without modification. You may want to re-locate the rear axle further back and up anyway.
Would you like to run a traditional spring over hot rod front end? What front end parts do you have or can you get .. Like 28 to 34 spring? .. Wishbone? Privet message me your address and I can tell you what a dropped axle will cost shipped to your door.
Ed Loyd is right. 28 thru 34 front suspension with a torch & some old school blacksmith skills can be pretty inexpensive. A common S10 rearend has a real nice width to it for these hot rod.
