Flathead fordomatic starter motor: Junk? (Flatattack/FlatOmatic)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chopshop13, Jun 25, 2011.

  1. Hi. Ive bought a '53 Flatty complete with fordomatic. I wont take possesion for about 2 months so i thought id ask a few questions about it.

Ill be running a C4 or other later model Auto trans which will come with its own flex plate. ***uming that those are designed to use a manual starter (i know they vary) will they work with the FordO starter?

Im talking about the difetence in offset from ring gear to the back of motor between the FordO and Manual.

I wont run the speedway kit, itll be either a Flat Attack or Flat O matic kit which both require a stamped steel or cast 'mini' bellhousing combined with there own half of the bellhousing.
Therefore ill need a starter plate, can i use the one coming with my engine? can i use any? i understand the starter is somewhat different.

Ive read every conceivable thread on these issues and its left me a little confused. Any advice is apreciated, especially if you know exactly what i need.
