  1. just remember the best theft protection is a few pots of coffee, and a 12 gauge with slugs :D or rock salt if ya wanna be humane about it....

  2. Sorry you lost your parts. That ****s..

Just a thought here.. What if this guy bought the parts without knowing they were stolen? He did advertise them in plain sight for the world to see.

I would guess that anybody involved in this hobby for any amount of time has had stolen parts in there hand at one time or another. How the hell can you tell if it is stolen when you bought it. Is there a label that shows it is hot? Have you ever bought anything from a swap meet? If the part you purchased was stolen and you are unaware (most thieves at a swap meet wont share that information with you) , Does that make you a "*****"or one of the many other names this guy has been called here?? Should you have somebody go to your place of work and try to screw up your source of income??

Then look at it from his side.. What if he bought / traded for these parts and you show up responding to his ad. You try to take these parts he paid for saying they were stolen from you. How does he know your not trying to scam nim out of his parts? It goes both ways. With no information as to the facts, He has already been labeled "Thief". What will your label read?

How about you go talk to the guy face to face with an open mind? **** the "Drag him behind the car" mentality. How would you respond to that approach? **** can get ugly real quick.

As un-traditional as this may sound, I hope you are able to resolve this in a dignified and intelligent manor.

  8. I think I am reading this correctly ...

You had your garage broken into and parts were stolen. The parts have now appeared on Craigslist. There are legitimate witnesses that can identify the thief. You have contacted the seller and now have an opportunity to meet him (and you now know where he works). I am having a bit of trouble understanding whether the Police are interested in becoming involved at this point. If they are not, I would suggest that you go to look at the parts, but take someone with you that can identify him as the thief (leave this person in the car otherwise the alleged thief might recognize them). If this person is able to identify the thief, and the thief is in possesion of some of the stolen property, damn well demand that the the Police get involved at that point. It's never ends well when someone shows up to a gunfight with a baseball bat.

I find it highly su****ious that the guy does not use a regular phone number as a means of contact ... I'd bet money this clown selling is the thief. Best of luck, but as others have said ... confrontation can turn very ugly VERY quickly .... proceed with extreme caution.

If it were me, I'd just try to get whatever stuff you can back as easily and unconfrontationally as possible, leave the police out of it as it seems they are worthless anyway and then just secure the **** out of your place so it doesn't happen again.

Good luck with it. I hope you get as much back as you can and that the whole thing can be put in the past for good asap.

Ok guys here the skinny. Met with the Fresno P.D. Seems as they have never written a full report of the stollen items. Only insodent report number isued. Another way of saying crime in are city is low or gone down. Finaly got a report written with a real case number. I also had two seperat meetings to view two seperate craigis list postings. The police would not back me up. They said it need to go to a detcive frist. I could not wait any longer. Called my brother two buddys my two sons. The only one that would back me up was my 5' 2" Grilfriend. Shes got some mud. The rest those guys are ballless wonders and I told the that. We frist went to view the antque phonograph which was Just like the one that was stollen but it was't mine it did not have the I.d. markings mine had. we explained to the lady what we were doing and excused our self and she was very understanding. Now on to the stollen nailhead parts. We wen't to the Tire shop he worked at to view items. He had allready sold the valve covers he got the clutch pedal out from the bottem of his tool box. It was mine I asked hem where he got it. from a friend i asked what the friend name was he looked very puzzled. I told him this stuff was stolen from me. He said I thought this was to good to be true. I had been sizing him up as we were talking he looked to be the ***. manager clean cut and did not fit the dicreption of the person that broke in to the house and shop. i told him he was eather a suspect or a witness. I also told him he had 24 Hr. to come up with some names and adress. And a few other things. He called me later that eveing and told me he had a name it was uncle Mike and he could show me wher he use to live. I told him there was a lot of uncle Mikes in this world. You havent given me anything. He said he was afraid of what these guys might do to him and his famaly. I reminded him my next step was to turn him over to the P.D. lol. He said he would talk to them but call him frist and he would meet us some where please don't come to his work. I reminded him 24 Hr. or all bets are off and it will be out of my hands and once the P.D. questions him I will have his full name and adress. And was he more afrade of me or them. When i was at house yesterday it looks like the are getting ready to take a 1938 plymouth 4 dr sedan 75% done project I am trying to get a tracking device to put on it. Any ideas on what to do from here would help. thanks Jim

As i said mny times not after parts after people. What he said was he was afraid of what the people he bought this stuff for might do to him or his family if he sniches them out. I do not beleve this is the guy that broke into the house but I beleve he knows who did. I told him ever see anyone rip off a Hells Angle. He replied hell no I said consider me one of those kind of guys. He did call me tonight and give me a location of the house but still no full name or adress. It is in a rule area he said send the sheriff they will find lots of stollen property and drugs. We all know they wont go with out probable cause and his here say wont get that warrent they need. Sounds more like 6 guns and motorcycles to me. JIM

Damn Jim, sorry to hear all this happening to you. Fresno PD is an interesting en***y to say the least. I really hope you can convince them, or Fresno sheriffs dept to go out there and put a hurt on the kingpin house.

While I was in my back surgery last month at St Agnes, someone stole the catalytic converter off of my father in laws truck. Right out of the hospital parking lot. Hospital security didn't see anything and Fresno PD aren't interested. My father in law is a CHP officer and ended up having to buy a new converter. (I did tell him that once I'm healed I'll weld his new one on for him!)

Bottom line is this there is no room for thieves in this world, unless it's behind a wall of iron bars. Good luck in finding justice.

PS, you asked about some hose clamps awhile back. Next time you're in the Hanford area give me a call (559-309-2992) and stop by. I'll give you a handfull of them. -Josh
