Introducing....THE WA-GOON!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BARNETT, Apr 29, 2005.

  1. With some help from Marcy and Jasonic, I finally got ahold of my 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 Station Wagon! I bought it from a fellow DEADBEATS member, Steve, in Detroit. 289, 4spd Toploader and....AIR CONDITIONING! I have only had a.c., in my daily driver, for 1 year outta the last 17 years or so...this summer is NOT gonna kick my ass. :D I'm pretty stoked...I know this thing is pretty far down the food chain to most of ya'll, but that's fine by me. The body is decent, the drivetrain is solid, it has a.c., good glass, doors shut really nicely AND I actually dig the body style. Too late model for most car shows?...not a problem, I'll go DRIVE the thing somewhere else. :D I have a VISION for this thing, thanks to Blake and his photoshop abilities. Here's how it sits right now...

Looks cool, and for some twisted reason that I can't put my finger on, I like it too :)

    Barnett,

I have a set of Fox Craft skirts for that car. They were on my '65 Fairlane when I bought it, but I removed them for more muscle. It's a shame your car's not black because they have perfect black paint! PM me if you're interested.

Here's the 4Spd for this one, it's called a Dagenham and was built by Austin Healy for Ford specifically for HiPo option for the 61-65 Falcon/Stang 6cyl.

Some pics of my old car...

  8. I think it's actually a Florida car that moved to Denver and then Detroit...which explains the a.c. Steve also swapped out the original trans for the 4 spd.

Ed...the color isn't gonna stay green. It won't be black either, though. I'll p.m. ya. thanks.

  11. I see...it's fuzzy...I see Radir's and skinny whites, a slam, a wiiiiiiild panel or scallop job in about six colors, and some sweet lettering.

    Am I in the ballpark?

Is that thing coils at all four corners? If so, you better come out for the HAMB bag of my wagon. We can talk about sign painting and striping so you can write the trip off on your taxes :)

I like the wagon man, but reassure me that nothing is going to happen to the econoline of death....

  17. yes, kids...metal flake and pearls are in the future! :D Panels?...DEFINITELY! There will be more panels than background color!! The wheels...Cragars or radirs wold be SWELL! I'll probably, for now, end up with bullets and chrome lugs...gotta work with a budget. Tony Bones...when ya'll doin the HMB bag? I've got leaves in the back and coils up front. It has 1" blocks...I'll be swappin those for 2" blocks and cutting a coil. It's one coil for 1.5 inches, right? It actually sits fairly decent already...I'll modify the stance a bit, but not too much since it rides really nice. I like to find a happy medium between form andd function.

Bored...Actually,I wanna get Jeff Shea to do some striping on the interior as well as have Jime Litwalk paint one of his world famous pin ups on the glovebox or somethin...this way I can look at somebody else's art, instead of mine. :D I'll stripe the outside though.

BigDdy31...Caffeine is the new owner of the Freak-conoline! I think it's in good hands...he's already made tons of interior improvements! I miss the van, though...it feels kinda weird drivin a car!

I really didn't want to give the Wa-Goon back to you yesterday.

Jaws are going to drop when the BARNETT is finished with this thing.

Nice, don't think I've seen a wagon from that year. Great bodyline, should work well with panel paint. Just gotta lose those the raccoon headlight bezels :D (had the same issue with my Rambler).

How 'bout 65 New Yorker headlights and a tube grille?

  21. Yep...I have plans for some changes to the grill.

Here's the PhotoShop by Blake. The colors are a little off, but at least you can see the general idea. The starbursts, if I do them, will be done with a pearl so that they're a little less obvious. we'll see...I don't wanna get in over my head...it's not like I'm Donnie Baird or anything. I have some other "surprises" planned for the panels, too...can't give away EVERYTHING, though. lol. Originally I was gonna go with the gold/rootbeer brown look, but my wife wasn't really "feelin" it. Now I'll go with gold and a Ice Pearl White top. Pearl panels...probably in gold or kind of orange-ish.

Nice thing about those big wagons: When you're out with that *special* lady, you can forgo a radio...there's enough room in back to just hire a string quartet to travel with you and serenade her!! :)

Nice find, can't wait to see what you do with it!

That is a perfect, perfect canidate for a wild panel job... plenty of shapes to play off of, and it's got an interesting shape too. I've always liked the mid-60's Newport wagons myself, like pictured above. Should turn to be a very interesting car...

Oh man...I took my drivers test in a '73 429 Merc wagon back in the dark ages. Some'bitch must of been 25 feet long. Failed the parallel park portion of the drivers test royally. What a turd that car was. Man I miss that big piece of shit.

Have fun with that sex machine.

You know I dig it man.

Of course I'm partial to Fairlanes. 289 and a four speed will rock and roll. I don't know what it has now, but if it doesn't already have it....put on a 500 cfm Edelbrock 4v carb...an Edelbrock performer 289 intake manifold...and a set of Hooker Supercomp headers. You'll be suprised at how much it will wake up!

I think thats what you need to do. Make it have some get up and go along with sporting the fabulous BARNETT™ paint job.
