My buddy lives off I-93...Exit 26 or 28 (near the Polar caves) He hasn't had his bike or car out yet...too muddy. we used to stay with him on "Bikeweek" when we lived in R.I. He was going to visit us over the winter but couldn't leave because he had to shovel snow off the roof after it snowed! I was an Army "DI" at Fort Drum N.Y., years ago....seen enough snow!
I have a number of friends who moved from Florida to TN. They seem to like the area south of Knoxville around Marysville and Lenoir City and they tell me there are all kinds of car shows and stuff to do. The part I like is the fact that you can build a brand new home on a few acres and the property tax is under a $1,000 dollars a year. Bad part is 9.25 percent sales tax which I guess helps pays everyone's property tax. My one friend told me his water bill in the minimum you can pay. When I asked what that amount was he said $12.00 a month. That's cheap. I have been living on the West Coast of Florida for 20 years now and I like the fact that each day is almost the exact same weather forecast. Bright sunshine and the temperatures between 90 and 93 degrees with a light breeze which to me is about perfect. I just got back from Texas where each day it was between 99 and 104 degrees and I told my friends I was going back to Florida to cool off a little!!! I hope I never see snow, ice and crummy weather again. The thought of putting chains on my truck no longer appeal to me. Jimbo
I've been looking around a bit myself for a place to move to. You think Fla is bad with respect to car related stuff ?? In Maine its practically non-existant. The closest decent event is York, PA which is a 10-hour drive one way. My vote would be North Carolina. My brother lives in Greensboro ( he is the smart one of the family ) and I have friends in Lexington. I've spent a fair amount of time in the area and I think it would be a great place to live.
Florida is the LAST place I'd want to live. Bugs, heat, geezers, (and I am one), ect. In the next year or two, we'll be moving to the Kentucky / Tennesse area, with Bowling Green being the first choice. Time to escape New York politics, taxes & winters.
Kansas aint bad, got lots of hot rod stuff going on ,seems like every weekend and some beautiful country, check out our thread on the kansas back roads cruise.
With the end of the Space Shuttle program there are a lot of bargains on homes to be had in the Titusville area of Central Florida. It seems half the people I worked with at the Space Center are leaving the area to find work. Another two thousand is to be laid off the end of July. I went out in April. A cruise or show is happening almost any weekend within a half an hours drive, if not a show or cruise in town. Forty five minutes from Daytona or Orlando. Half an hour to a non tourist beach, Playalinda Beach. Once a month swap meet in Webster isn’t that bad of a trip. If you are interested PM me and I will show you around.
I travel the country 365 days a year Spring thru Fall I would live in Central Maine Monson, Maine to be exact Just uploaded a couple You Tube Travel Channel videos: @ http://www.youtube.com/user/TrulyVintageOnDaRoad?feature=mhee I am at Shaw's - just off the Appalachian Trail today ..... Rest of the year I would spend in New Mexico Probably the Northeast Corner but anywhere is fine Jim
I'd suggest moving to Hawaii but the only thing cheap over here is sunshine. The up side is there are plenty of cool cars!
lol this is like where i live 3 months of the year stop your complainin lol get in the car and drive i go that far everyday just to get to work and its hell hooking up the dogs to the sled every morning to get to work lol monly kiddin about the dogs there well trained
You're Lucky... dogs? Pure luxury... it got so cold one winter we had to eat the dogs! Our parents told us that if we didn't pull the sled we'd be next!!! But it could be worse... <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/FatHLHG2uGY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Man I guess I just don't know what to tell ya. We are purposley moving to whete there is nearly no one and no car stuff with 50 or so miles. I'm tired of people again and living that far ways gves us a chance to make an outing of going to a show or cruise. Thee are no doubt countelss places in this country with good weather and a fast moving car scene. You shouldn't have any troubel find that perfect place.
So what is up with Boise, ID? Lots of folks leaving So. Cal for that Idaho area and some also have a small home near Las Vegas when they want to warm up in the winter. Prices in NV are incredibly low and there are lots of tax reasons for being there at least part of the year.
you might look into tampa bay area or sarasota. west coast vs east coast? even a little further north. i spent 3 months in jxville for med treatment. there seemd to be plenty of activity and it was june july and aug.
I loved so cal when I lived there. Traffic and too many people can drive you nuts at times. I live in west Texas now......no car scene here. I visited Austin a couple times...LOVED it there!!
I could use a good car guy neighbor. Southern middle Tennessee is a pretty decent place for car happenings and its close to the car happenings in north Alabama. My area has many car guys and theives know that us hillbilies shot and ask questions later. Housing market is fairly cheap also.
O.k., so I'm a denizen of Phoenix, AZ. I do love it here except for the next 3 months... 115 constantly sucks! Just as bad as winter back in Minnesota. If I had my druthers, I would be in San Deigo area in a heart beat. Other places to look at here are Tucson and Prescott. Cool thing with AZ. is that L.A. is only about 4 - 5 hours away so it is quick to get over for shows, but you don't have to deal with L.A. everyday. We always have tons of stuff going on here in Phoenix and Tucson as well too, but being here does mean you run back and forth to L.A. quite a bit. Winter time however is glorious!!!
buy a camper [one of those big John Madden mega cruiser bus type], put a tow bar behind it for the hot rod, and go!
I used to live in PSL (aroso bvd.) and know what you mean. Healthcare, taxes and crime come to mind . You sure dont want to stay up all night with a gun watching over loved ones. Find a place where you can get me a title for my 32 without the BS . my mom was from Ky and I like the Ky people I meet at the Frog Follies..... so I vote Ky.
i always was told... one step ahead of johnny law ... two steps a head of the tax man ....three steps ahead of the grim reaper....never run with your pants around yer ankles
i live in taunton, and i have been driving my cars almost every day. too muddy? the roads in taunton are paved... i had to shovel snow off my roof too. but that which does not kill you makes you stronger... i can't imagine leaving new england. drive 3 seasons, build hot rods the 4th.
Thanks for all your replies, most were helpful. Usually when someone tells me where to go, I get offended....not this time! I have more great leads than money, but I'll use your suggestions as places to start looking. I knew I should have married a fat chick...they usually have more money than the cute ones!

If you are planning to buy a new house then it is always better to contact a real estate agent. Brief him your requirement he will help you to find the right kind of house that you are looking for in a reasonable price.
If I was ever to move from Texas, it would be to Bowling Green, KY. Absolutely gorgeous and lots and lots of car nuts.
