Back in the late 90's a friend of mine bought a 1948 chrysler in SOLID shape. I helped move it into his garage, pull the motor and trans, start cleaning the interior and then we stopped. The car has been sitting un-touched for 5-8 years now. Im not sure the technical name of this car, i've heard it called a 9 p***enger deluxe, 8 p***enger, ect. I know that it had suicide style doors on the rear, with what i would consider a love seat built into the back, then it had a flip up row of seats right inside the doors. I would consider it an 8 p***enger car (3 front, 3 middle, two back). It had the inline "spitfire" engine and had that "limo look" to it. Well the owner came up to me this weekend and asked if i would be interested in buying the car...or if i knew someone who would like to buy it. Im in the middle of building a model a...but have very little parts for it. this car on the other had is COMPLETE. But i've never seen one restored really... Hell its been so long i barely remember what the thing looks like haha. all i know is its been sitting in his shop, under cover, protected from the weather and animals for a LONG time. I'm thinking about going out this weekend to look at it and make an offer on it. But i have no idea what kind of offer is fair for a project like this. Any insite on this car? Im considering restoring it to "mostly" original and using it to go to concerts and such with my family and friends. Basically have my own limo haha.
THe one picture looks to be a 'Limo' With a divider behind the front seat, and a little newer than 48. Here's the wife's big sedan, has the jump seats, buit no divider. So its the small limo. 1948 Chrysler Windsor 8 p***enger Sedan. Jeff
If you are registered with Yahoo, take a look at the Post War Heavy Metal (PWHM) forum. There are a few limos there.
Jeep, those cars look good! This one didnt have a divider behind the front seat (that i remember anyways). I was kind of thinking about putting new white walls on it, cleaning the frame up and upgrading the suspension. Possibly put disk brakes up front, 9" rear, SBF with an auto trans. just something that looks sleek and catches everyones eyes.
Most I've seen pictures of didn't. Front just needs the upper shock mount moved from the arm to the frame. Search here for Plymouth and Chrysler for more info. OldDaddy here has the brake stuff, it has been posted that a later model Explorer has a rear that will bolt in and has discs. Check other posts here for info on the SBM swap. There have been a few SBC but I don't know of a SBF swap. Most prefer Mopar/Mopar, but a few are vocal about putting any darn motor in any darn car they have. Of all the mopar (and other) projects I see that are for sale half done, most are hacked in camaro subframes and SBCs. I draw a conclusion that the type of person that goes that route isn't as likely to finish...
after reading more into that car, i started thinking that rather then a SBF, it would be alot more radical to place a Hemi into it. Im going to talk with him this weekend and see what kind of price he'd have to have for it. Its not like i need it, just think it would be a cool project. idk.
