Are caps, points and condensors available for Mallory MagSpark dual points distributors (ZC Cadillac distro)? Any source info such as a link would be greatly appreciated!!!

As always, thanks a ton for the help!!!

  2. The 24001 two piece cap assy or 24004 lower cap, 24215B rotor, the brass condensors and 24875B points (Summit Racing etc have these) are what I got but had to wait on E-Bay sellers to front them up, the X on the pic with the points means extra strong spring for racing, not necessary on street. I searched but found no store suppliers for these parts (except points) :(Might be able to adapt a 4004 cap and 4215C rotor, dunno....maybe distributor guru GMC Bubba can help  Do you have the Magspark coil to suit?

There is a modern style cap now on the market(yuk) but your old cap and rotar are undoubtly good, because they were high quality stuff

These caps regularly go for about $300 so if you ever see them for $100 scoop them up. The internals can be had still but those caps are super hard to find unless you are buying the whole distributor. And those prices are for SBC stuff so your guess on the Cad shit is as good as anybody's!

The magspark coil's are the rather robust boxes instead of a cylinder right?

The magspark I'm getting comes with a brown cap. And yes, the magspark coil is a box.

Luckily, all of the Mallory distributors with the weatherproof caps used the same cap, rotor, and condenser for at least thirty years, so if you can buy a complete distributor for cheap, it's worth it for the extra parts. I recently bought a N.O.S. and complete Mallory dual point for a small block Chrysler for $40.00, which is less than I've seen the large brass condenser go for.

    Thanks Heathen!!

    Another question...
I have a good running stock Cadillac distributor converted to Pertronix. Can these parts be retro-fitted to the magspark? I'd rather stay with the dual points, just weighing my options...

I'm running the 2 piece flat cap Mallory dual point. I have been buying up new caps for the last 3 years before they became $100.00+ items. Points, rotor and a retro condenser is still readily available. The old brass condenser is like buying gold if found without it being cracked but the retro one works fine.

There is a gentleman on ebay that now sells a retro cap to fit the old Mallory dual point but it is not a 2 piece flat cap like the original. Looks like a conventional cap.

    Thanks p'n'b'ner!!!

I've read the Mallory transformer is ideal for the magspark. I've also read you can wire up a regular coil as well. Can anyone go into detail about the transformer with regards to the magspark?

    And thanks again!!!

  13. If you join the two breaker points together you can run as a dual point, I have the complete Mallory Magspark instructions in a PDF file (Adobe Acrobat will open), PM me with a e-mail address and I will send you a copy if you wish :D

Wiring them together only works on eight lobe cam units, the four lobe requires a distributor machine. You adjust one set of points to spec and then sync the other set on the degree rings. Other wise the cylinders wont fire 45 degrees from each other.
Actually i like using the pertronics unit on the four cam units.....for this reason...

  16. I started to tell you that this is a Bubba question but he has already jumped on.

Last time I needed a transformer in a pinch Bubba hooked me up. You may ask him before you dump a load on one that you don't know about.

Thanks again pork'n'beaner. I've been talking to Bubba and he'll get the magspark to get it right for me. He said he may have a transformer but if not, he could get it to work with a regular coil.

I actually prefer to use the points instead of electronic, mostly only for nostalgic reasons. :D
