Setting degrees on pinions, axles etc.

  1. Not sure if this is the right place to post but just thought I'd share this handy hotrod tool!!
I used mine to set up the pinion angle, frame etc. Accurate within .10 degree. The magnets really hold it on to the metal also. It beats the hell out of those angle finders that have the dial and are gravity operated.
I set my axle with one of those and when I got this, I was 1 degree off from each side.
Just thought I would share the discount. Like I said, it comes in real handy and when I threw it on the frame of my Whippet, both sides read exact. That was lucky as I didnt use one untill after I welded up my frame.
This is a Harbor Freight tool that is a must have.

Did you buy the extended warranty? Let us know how long it lasts. I have several of those antique gravity ones that are at least 30 years old and have been dropped and stepped on lots of times, still work and when I'm through I stick them on the lid of my tool box for the next time.

I'm not anti new stuff I just stay with what works.

  3. Looks handy, i used my iphone when i was setting some of my angles. It seemed to be extremely accurate as well, but it doesnt have the magnets. Let us know how long they last! haha

Digital levels are all over the place and work well. The problem is you start getting fussy over .25 degrees! Gary

interesting-the bubble style have such a big range and need only a small section for pinion angles some times hard to get good reading.

I have had mine for several years. I am very happy with it. The feature that is nice is you can capture an angle. Put it in place and tell it to save and you can take it out and look at the reading. I can't see sometimes and this helps.
