This George Barris 55 is for sale right now in the new Orleans area. I have seen this car before in magazines old and new. Does anyone know the actual story on this car, and what year George Barris built it? The ad says the visor is signed by Barris, so it seems like the real thing. Is this real???
Don't know the history of this car, but just because George signed it doesn't mean he built it. George, Gene, Darryl, and many others sometimes are asked to look at & sign dashes, visors, air cleaners, etc. just as a way of approving their opinion of a car. It can sometimes be THE actual car, a clone, or just a neat ride they think is cool. I admit this is a nice looking ride, but with the tank showing in the trunk, if it is an older kustom (and it could be because of the bubble skirts) it's been updated. I dont think it is a barris built car. I have followed his work since the early fifties and it just doesnt look like his style. Just my 2 cents,
The above car was actually built in Buffalo,NY.It used to be purple suede. It was done early to mid 80's by a good friend of mine.
