Alright heres the scoop guys. I'm gonna wanna put my car on the road soon. I still have to finish a few things first like plumbing and wiring but would like to be prepared for when i get to registering it. Any how this is my first time doing this, so im not really sure what to do. OK so here we go. i live in new york. my body that i got came with no ***le a '27 T which was pretty rough when i got it, there for it had no tags on it. So so i got a ***le from california for it and this ***le from 1930's. My questions are, How do i go about registering it? well i hope you fellow hambers will have some suggestions to make this a easy process. or atleast get me going in the right direction. thanks guys
I know it's a little too late but whenever building a project, get the paperwork straightened out BEFORE you build it! If it turns out you absolutely can't ***le it, good luck selling a complete running vehicle with no paperwork! You may wind up parting it out! Now, I'm in California where our ***ling process is a nightmare. It may be smoother in NY. I think the first thing I would do is contact your DMV and see what they suggest. Hopefully a member here has gone through the process in NY and can better help you. Not too sure about a '30's ***le for a '27 T but then again, what do I know? Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
You should get it inspected by your Highway Patrol and get numbers stamped on the frame where it's visible. In California, only the Highway Patrol is authorized to issue new vin numbers. They are stamped on a plate and riveted with special rivets. That way, if you have to make a claim with your insurance, numbers on the vehicle will match paperwork. There's another thread on here where an insurance company refused to pay because the vin numbers didn't match the paperwork. Now if I decide to buy a car, I check that paperwork matches the car.

There are about 50 threads on here about cars with ***les that don't match the car. I'd have to say that you wasted your money on that one. It might fly if you had a body that matched the ***le description and a replacement frame but it isn't going to fly very far with a 27 body and what ever frame you have. New York is stupid, stupid easy. First of all, ignore the highway patrol stuff and anything to do with other states. Next, go to the DMV website and download yourself an MV51 and MV51B. They're self-explanatory. Serial number? Model T's used the engine number, they have no numbers on the body or ch***is, so make a pencil etch of your engine number and use that. Can't find the previous owner? You bought it from a buddy you know well. The forms DO NOT need to be notarized. You will probably need to get it weighed, take it to a certified scale and pay them the $10 or so if you can do that. Then go in with that stuff, insurance cards, a reciept with a reasonable sale price on it that matches the previous owner on the MV51 form, and fill out the usual green MV80 form. What will happen is you'll get plates then and there with a nontransferrable registration. Albany will check the number you use as a VIN on either hard copy or a closed computer system and as long as it comes back clear you get a transferrable registration with a new window sticker and card in 4-8 weeks. But you can drive the car right away. Then sell those other old ***les on eBay or something and let someone else use them to register a car with if they want to.

I should add, don't offer the DMV any extra info. The DMV does not inspect your car for the serial number unless they somehow get the idea that it's been ***embled. Even then I'm not sure how they handle hot rods and non-***le cars, as opposed to ***le cars which get the dreaded MV907A stamp and need a proctologist to check all the numbers and make sure nothing is stolen. You didn't mention body style, but if it's a touring you can choose 4-door instead of convertible - I've seen stock original 20s cars at shows registered that way.

The california ***le and reg i have are for a 1927 2 dr sedan. the reg date reads 1929. so im ***uming this was the last time this ***le changed hands. but it is for a 1927 2dr sedan. i think im gonna go the way you said rusty. talked to a couple other people around here and thats what they said to do. thanks again guys. couple pics for ya also
Hmmm, not being from NY, I'm not sure how many years you get for fraud. And '26 and '27 T's had the serial number stamped on the frame just like Model A's. The last year it was strictly on the block was 1925. I do know the state of NY does have state issued VIN's which is the best (safe) way to go.
Ok heres another set of wheels and tires i got for this. rears are 14x9U.S royal w.w pie cutters on early chevy chrome reverse. fronts are on15x5.60 continentails on cragers 2 pieces rims. early ford bolt pattern 5 on 5 1/2 nut unilug. thought id share these with ya fellow hambers. thanks again im looking in to the ***le and reg. more new yorkers feel free to comment id love to hear your advice, stories or just plan wisdom. thanks again guys.
SERIOUSLY? After the state is cracking down on out of state ***les? Tax fraud? Good luck with that...
Buying a California ***le from a guy in New York when you live in California is not an out of state ***le. It's CA to CA. Everything after that may be questionable, but it's not tax fraud.
