buick straight 8 split manifold???

    im buying a 53 buick with a straight 8 and would love to put a pair of smittys on her,,,i know nothing about straight 8s, and was wondering if there is a split manifold or headers available for this, or do i need to go the homemade route?..anyone ever split their own manifold,,,how'd you do it????

    headers are going to be scarce....if you,re not going to build a tire smoker, the split manifold will be ok. go to the junk yard and find a suitable flange, use a hole saw to cut a hole in your manifold and weld the flange on using cast iron rods. determine where you want it split and cut a gap almost through the manifold and weld in a divider plate.[about 1/4 thick] the coolest buick i ever heard was split 5 and 3....killer sound.:)

    Buy an 2x2 Edmunds intake and build a header. It's not that difficult to make the flanges, very basic layout.

    The 320ci Roadmaster stuff will not fit on the smaller 248/263 stuff. It's like big block/small block S-8s and not too many parts will swap over.

    For my 53 I have a Dual intake manifold from a 41 and a pair of split exhause manifolds. They were stock equipment of buicks for a long time pre-WWII.
