Anybody remember the Service Center on Alantic Blvd an something Right next to the giant Donut place ? I think compton or south gate.
I use to frequent the Service Center on Sepulveda in Van Nuys. It's gone now. The only Service Center I know of is in Lomita at Narbonne and Lomita Blvd.
Bought set cragers backintheday......... also set 16 goodyear slicks that where given to Tony Nancy to test on his gas draster>got them after only 3 runs........
I bought stuff from the one on supulveda. My friend Brad worked there. I thought there was one in torrance also. The guys from the torrence one would come to the valley with a fast ass green 55
Bought parts at the Service Center on Sepulveda Blvd...Dave Prey, Walts brother worked there for years...The SC chain had a bunch of sponsored cars always running at OCIR....
Sheldon didn't fake his death, too many others involved for that! He ran the '65 LTD flopper --- and the Jag "Snoopy" --- anyone have photos? Lots of cars with SERVICE CENTER markings on the drag strip, I recall Brad Anderson and lots of Super Gas cars, "Just Cookin'" Corvette roadster and others. Plus the big sign at OCIR that showed up on so many photographs.
The service center on Alantic Burned Down in the early 60s and I don't think they ever replaced it as far as i know, in 63 I went into the Air Force and was gone for 4 years.
They were one of the first companies to make floor shift conversions...I bought one for my '50 Merc, but never got it to work right...went down there to ask them how to fix it, but they were not real helpful.
Does anybody remember that green 55. It had balck sidepipes. They race bottle bob on woodley. Bob gave them 4 and blew up his vette when he hit the second unit. There was a yellow vega that set them out 4 and beat them. thats the only loss i remember
I used to hang out at the Compton Service Center as a kid, about 8 or 9 years old. The guys would occasionally let me sit in the race cars that always seemed to be out front. Remember well sitting in the Peanuts funny car during construction.
