Since I joined, I've been trying to figure out the best way to ask this. I tried to do my own research for a few years, but most efforts turn up dead ends. From calling old track photographers to buying any raceway park news I could. Seeing the efforts of Rosa on here, and reading street race stories made me decided the time was ripe to give this a shot.

I have a 1965 Impala that was supposed to have been a race car down in Englishtown. When I called the seller and asked about the car, I was told of how this car used to be a race car, won many races, etc. When I bought it I was offered the trophies it won, but I didn't think I take them. I believe it was a Northern Jersey car for a good portion of its life. I figure it was probably raced between 73 and 83, if it was.

If you recognize it, or may be able to point me in the right direction I'd appreciate.

Hmmm Impala with only 4 lights in the back, I thought only the Bel Airs or biscaynes had that. Cool looking car though.

Have you lost contact with the previous owner? Since he had the trophies, there may be names and dates on there that could provide some context.

So is it a big-block car? I would assume so, if it ever one any races. :D

Might know the car.can you tell if the frame was cut off in front of the wheels. If it was ,was the car a creme color before, the back half. Then it could be Bob Kaults old car.And does it have a 327 in it.

I did lose contact with the original owner a few years ago, I believe they were selling the car so they could move or so the story went. It is a big block car...I guess I forgot to mention that. It's originally a 396 4 speed bench seat car. Sometime during it's life the original drive line was pulled and put aside. It now has a 69 396 police motor with a turbo 400 and the original 12 bolt. It's still a bench seat car, but now with a hurst ratcheting floor shifter. She was put together long enough ago that the headers have the 4 bolt flange rather than the three bolt.

The frame on it is all stock except for where an extra set of cross member mounts were added to accommodate the th 400. From my best guess the car used to be turquoise with an aqua interior and a white top.

It may be hard to see from the photos, but the owner ran sonic Maximas all around, and liked them so much he had them mounted on his other car as well.

Not that it is important, but it still has a set of those Yosemite Sam "Get It On" Floor Mats... I believe they were the secret to making it go fast.

Thanks 54Bomb, I like the 4 tail lights too much to swap the trunk out for a 6 lighter.

An original big block car? 4 speed & bench seat? 4 tail lights, hmm sounds a lot like the state police type performance package, speedo isn't calibrated or some kind of certification does it? I'd run the vin# and see what comes up, be interesting for sure. Nice car.

    Try these guys - http://www.impalas.net/forums/

They know as much about Impalas as the guys around here know about hot rods. Well, maybe not that much, but they're pretty good. Go to that site and just like here, nose around, join, add an intro and start learning.

They helped me a lot with my newly acquired '66 Impala.

I've used chevy talk, but I don't think I ever asked them. As for the trunk, I am almost certain it was. I have a correct trunk for it, but I really do like the 4 lights.

In '65 Chevrolet had a paint color called "Evening Orchid" which was a purplish type color. My dad's chevelle was that color and it almost looks like your Impala might be that color combo also. Check the paint codes as it was a rare color if I remember correctly.

Trunk swap would be the reason to only have 2 sets of lights?
