What a great car. I like the ripples and no visor. Congrats.

Great looking car. All i would do at this point is lower the back till its noticeably lower than the front, and throw those Wide Whites on there. I wouldnt shave ANY chrome

It's an Olds, run Starfire or Fiesta caps on it. The ripple caps aren't right, to my eye. I have a '49 98 hard top. It sits pretty low, but not slammed. The ****** hits when you get it low. Word to the wise... Fatman sells dropped uprights and lower arms. The Houdaille shocks are rebuildable. Nice car. Have fun with it.

mounted the diamondbacks on some 49 cad wheels, so the cad caps don't need to be adapted. the cad wheels sit out a bit farther than the olds wheels. got some bullets at home, but there's no room for them in the rear, but when it's lowered a bit, the centers won't show. just experimenting.

Looks fantastic... no bullets please. Thats a later 50's things... and even more a modern thing.
Your car looks far better with the original Caddy crest in place. Its a nice added detail. The bullet would make it to smooth.
The hubcaps I was using for the Photoshop where actually 1952? Olds hubcaps... not Caddy Units. And I only used them since they came with the tires I used... and I wanted to show some different hubcaps.

I have to agree with Rikster. The crests are just too cool to cover up with bullets.

    Hey,

That don't look like my daddy's Oldsmobile!

I don't think I could bring myself to doin' much to that one, virgins from that era arn't like asian sedans today! No way would I shave the Olds jewelery off of it, to do so would make it look too much like a big Chevrolet! The ''sombreros'' would give it too much Caddy pretentiousness.

If I'm recalling correctly, when the GM C body models were on the drawing board Harly Earl took designers from each GM Art & Colour studio out to a local army/airbase to review the lines of the Lockeed P -38 fighter aircraft. The swoopy flow of the aircraft's lines was to be studied well, with the vertical rudders said to be the genius of the Caddy tailfin.

    Serious cool Olds!

The first 48 98 I ran into was at a junkyard, took the battery tray out of it to replace the long skinny one in a 53 I had at the time and thought it was a 49 and wondering why it had a straight 8. It was a couple years later that I learned it was a 48,should of grabbed the 49 or 50 88 convertible that was in that same yard as no one had taken a single part off of it and had sat there sine 59 or 60.

Please don´t "shave" anything off that car. That hood ornament and the way-cool Oldsmobile globe are just such integral parts of that car´s design. In visual terms, on a 3/4 -view like that, I bet the original designers´ intention was for these to draw Your eye first, starting from the highest, pointiest part of the front of the car, to go on towards the back, following the downward-slope of the roof and the whole rear of the body. Looking at the "photoshop" someone did I just can´t help thinking the whole nose end just looks "flat" without it.
Anyway, the most essential parts of this design are its unique-to-the C-body proportions; long hood, low, sloping roof, shorter p*** compartment in relation to the nose. Low window line. That´s what once set, and still sets this car apart from it´s smaller-body 88- and Chevy Fleetline counterparts (a whole differently proportioned, smaller body).
The door handles work as focal points as well and need to stay there as well, balancing out the mid-point of the side-view, plus (pardon me for saying so), "shaving" them just looks really low-rent, slab-sides the hell out of the most curvaceous designs, and doesn´t really "help" with entering the car either.
Personally, I would´ve kept the visor too, just added beauty rings and big whitewall tires on it like You did, and otherwise just kept it beautiful the way it survived the last 60+ yrs.
