Been around for years and had this name for a while now but never posted much. Just spend my time reading and learning as much as I can. But I thought I would post some pictures of the floors and rockers I have been working on the last couple of nights. The floors are in a 53 ford 4dr customline with a six and fordomatic. Real rough car, looks like a parts car with no good parts. This is basically my first try at this work so any positive criticism would be rad. I bought the replacement rockers inner and outer then I made the floors and the floor supports by hand out of 18g. The floors are still in the rough stage. I will be doing the finish work on them after I lay out the drivers side. Ill post some before and after pics. Hope they are not to big. before pics.
Hey one more thing, can anyone tell me what weekend the swap meet at greatwoods is this year.. or any swap meets coming up in the north east.
I like the bead work on the floors. It reminds me that I have to do the very same to my more door heap. I never thought about bracing the body like you did...good thinking.
Thanks. Yeah make sure you brace it or the b pilar will be floating in the breeze. The beads came out good. Matched up all the factory beads, except for the x part because I had nothing to go by. I used an cheap harbor freight with lots of bracing welded on it so it would work in the 18g metal. Everything is but welded too so when I get finished welding and grinding hopefully you want know I was there. thanks brian
AHHH! Another Four Door 53!! Iv'e had mine on the road for about three years now, worked on it for three years before that. Iv'e got a rectangular tube front frame section with a 80 Chrysler torsion bar front end, a 351M/auto and 9" rear. Just started getting the body in order and found the last owner covered up a badly rusted out top/drip rail area with about a gallon of bondo so I cut it off! I'm almost afraid to look at the rockers and lower doors now.. I'm in the process or making a Carson top for it now as I live in Rains-A-Lot Wa. I don't have much cash in the car as I traded and stuff for most everything so I figure I can do just about anything I want to do to it. But Iv'e learned more cutting and hacking on this car than in the last 20 years of sbc engine swaping/over the counter parts replacing/and doing what everyone expects you to do. Keep up the good work and most of all HAVE FUN!!
PONY I have similar problems with my drip rails. Havent decided what I will do about them yet. Im working from the bottom up right now. MassButcher thanx for the info brian
I would love to shave my drip rails but the water would run down the inside of the door. I have also heard it was a commun thing to shave the top of the doors and mold the post to get a smoother look. I dont know how this would work because my 55 doors wouldnt open with the window up If that was the case! Cool car good luck I havent even lifted my carpet yet in mine. Josh
Nice job on the floors & rockers...wanna do them in my '54 now? These cars are downright cool. I love em. I don't wanna get rid of my daily driven '54 because I've got so many plans for her, but I'm itching to build something else right now and I can't scrape up the cash... Anyhow, here she is...
Thanks guys. Im trying to find the time to finish the drivers side know. I will post some more progress when I get it. Have lots of ideas for it. Think Im going to try a new twist on the olds taillights and change the wheel openings on the front fenders. Hopefully find bumpers off of something at the swap meet tomorrow that I like and cut them up to fit. thanx brian
Sorry to bump this, but I had to post because the first 53 in the thread is sneakingly similar to my '54 Same color outside, same color under the carpet! My car was originally 'arctic blue' but someone painted it maroon/tan two tone at some point.
