I used to live in Binghamton and was always very happy with the fact that there was a u-pullit yard about 15 minutes away from me. Now I am in Albany and keep wondering if there are any pick your owns near by.

Even if I'm not looking for anything in particular, I don't think I can really ever pass up the opportunity to go through a junk yard.

Anyone know of any yards near Albany?

Two of my favorites are Williams Auto Parts (in Rexford) and Glenville Auto (in Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake).

Pretty slim pickings around here. Most of the yards crushed the old tin when prices were high, they were worth more as scrap than parts. You can try Williams in Rexford, they still might have some old junk, Glenville Auto has old stuff. It's on 146A near Ballston Lake, no sign or anything, jut a car hood propped up that says "closed" most of the time.

thank you very much... I'll try to check these out as soon as I can.

Honestly, old tin is really just an added bonus. Any junk yard that allows you to walk around and pick your own is good enough for me.

Ron Mac Neals greenwich n.y. car from the 1950-1970 big mopar fan and yard open on fridays and saturdays only .Walt Peters cambridge n.y. private yard near cambridge airport call first 1930-1950 cars! good luck you find the numbers all part of the hunt!:):)

  9. Mountain Motors - opens for the season in April, by appointment - (315)866-3072, off Route 28 near Herkimer/Mohawk, about 90 minutes tops from Albany. This is an antique car lot, there is little to nothing newer than 1975.

I don't know of any you-pick places in Albany but I'd have to think you could find something like that in the nearest phone book, the closest one to you I know of is just west of Utica.

There's a few between here and ALB on Route 7, but you gotta plead and cajole them to let you out back past the counter.

If you like old trucks there's one on Rt42 between Crooked Lake and Stehpentown. Looks like many can be restored, Opps I mean built.

It may have changed by now. Haven't been there in years. Lots of interesting stuff. It has just sat to long. Someone should video the place ,with permission of course and utube it. People here would go gaga over it.

Yes the sons have taken it over now. There is a ton of hidden stuff in there if you take the time to look. There are still plenty of cars that are complete that are worth doing. Even the old race cars from pine bowl speedway are really cool to see.

Yes guys, if you have face book look under Waits Garage and I have posted several or pics of 60 cars that are in the yard. That is not even a dent of what is there.

    Hi rg171352

There is a junkyard off of Rte 81 just North of Binghamton-looks to have lots of interesting old cars. It is always closed when I go there. I was told by someone in one of the nearby houses that it belongs to an Auto Parts store in Binghamton... who or what is it and how do you get in?

Not really sure how to post a lot of pics on this site. Seems kind of difficult to post a lot. I took about 300 pics buts takes a good two days to go through the whole yard.

Yes they would arrange a Saturday with you I am sure. They are good guys and reasonable. Just don't waste there time, that will get you on the bad side quick. Of course who wants to walk around all day for someone to tell you these parts and cars aren't worth anything. You will need a full day to walk this yard. There is over 2500 cars up there.
