I'm rebuilding the v8 flattie original to my '53F100. I want to replace the T98 4 speed that is in the truck with the rebuilt S10 T5 I recently bought on HAMB. I want to keep the original bellhousing, as it has the rear motor mounts, and correct clutch linkage. I know Offy has an adapter plate, but it for a Ford p***enger car and 3 speed. The mounting holes are all wrong. Suggestions?
Is this the Bell Housing you have? I don't think Offy makes an adapter for it. I just installed one in a 50 ford #5173. Sorry tried uploading photo of adapter on the Bell Housing (it would not upload). The bolt pattern is different though.
I put an S10 behind a (flat headtruck bell)...try Speedway...d32 Your bell housing on the '53 would look similiar to this...
This to clarify in case someone reads the sticker on above bellhousing...this came with it...from swap meet..
Have you tried putting the S-10 transmission up against the truck bell housing and determining what the differences are? Diameter of front bearing retainer on transmission vs the diameter of the hole in the housing? Length of input shaft from front of transmission case vs distance from bell housing surface to depth of pilot bearing? Relative location of mounting holes in transmission to tapped holes in bell? It may be all you need is a piece of 5/8 aluminum plate.

From Fasttimes: "Is this the Bell Housing you have? I don't think Offy makes an adapter for it." Yep. Exactly. Thanks.
The part of the front bearing housing on the T5 that is supposed to center the ****** in the bellhousing is a bit smaller than the centering hole in the '53 bellhousing, by a touch more than 1/4" The input shaft on the T5 looks to be about 3/4" longer than the input in the T98. I think I need a machine shop to make an adapter from about a 1" thick plate. The adapter will probably look a lot like the Offy adapter sold by Speedway, but with different dimensions all around. I'm thinking that may be the way to go. I was just hoping for a cheaper solution. Thanks!!!!
