Is there a site soley devoted to trading cars? OR a site where the majority of people trade cl***ics? Are there places where people meet up to trade cl***ic cars?
Most state motor vehicle divisions will not allow you to trade cars......they make you sell each car to each other so that you have to declare the sale price and the state can collect a sales tax.........that's how it is in NJ and few other states I am aware of......I know this because I tried to do it........nada... Anybody else? CB
People trade old cars back and forth all the time. Some of them even run when they do it. No site that I know of that is devoted to it though. And as CB said states have different views on the trades. Some want the full tax for the value of the vehicles while some see it as a straight across barter trade with no tax unless the car you got in trade came from out of state. The term "cl***ic car" has been abused so much in the past few years that I can't find a list of true cl***ics anymore. 64 Chevys aren't cl***ics they are just old Chevys no matter what anyone says. but you might like this site. http://www.zipsell.com/jm/antique.htm
Trading goes on here on the HAMB. I just traded my 63 Plymouth Belvedere for this red 29 roadster on 32 rails last weekend. I am still smiling
Was your trade in state or between states? How would you do it between states, also how do I sort the cl***ifieds by state or something or price?
What are you trying to trade makes a big difference on what sites you want to go to.New Jersey must have a screwed up DMV,here in Floirida, trades are made all the time.D.M.V might ask you the value but there is no set amount. Our forms even have a clause about it being a gift. Throw up an ad on some of the websites looking for a trade, with pics included and see what interest it gets.Race Car Junk,Hotrodders,Antique Autos etc.
I've made a whole bunch of trades with old cars - all running driving registered cars and never had any issues at DMV. They do ask for a value and as long as you are reasonable, there are no problems As for a site that deals with Only trades - never found one - but looking to trade my chopped Model A Coupe for something right now
I've had decent luck doing trades with cars I had on Craigslist, but you have to be prepared to sift through a lot of junk before you'll find anything good, I would guess that's how it goes anywhere. Also, no matter where you're listing your trade, you should have a dollar amount in mind so people will have an idea of what they're trade should be worth when they offer it to you. You won't get many offers if any if you can't put a dollar value on your own car.
