Hi, recently i bought a 394 and slimjim out of a running 61 Olds to get my 62 Starfire running. I know the seller and he told drivetrain was running ok, so i thought it´s a good idea to install both. I didn´t take the transmission off, nor did I change anything on that setup. After refilling the ******, engine and cooler I let it run for about two minutes and after i shut the engine off suddenly the dipstick shoots into the wall and about two quarts of transmission fluid are all around in my shop. I checked the ventpipe and it was free, the oil cooler lines are ok too, oil level was correct. Had all the oil out off the ****** and tried to refill by running engine. This time i had no issues, everything seemed fine. After a test drive around the block, ****** shifted like ít should, I drove into my shop, shut the engine off and suddenly smoke starts to come out of the hood. Opened it and the whole engine compartement is messed up with ****** fluid and the dipstick is out the tube about 5 inch. What can it be? Any ideas?
to much crank case pressure!!! i had a motor do this one time and the hole going to the breather line was pluged. it would shoot the dip stick 30 feet in the air
I've never seen trans fluid spill out like that before. I have seen oil shoot from the dipstick due to crankcase pressure (pcv valve was in backwards) on the 394.
I took of the vent tube on the transmission side and blew some compressed air thru it from the other side and felt the air coming thru the pipe so í ***ume it´s not the vent tube. AND that thing had no troubles while it was in the other car. Is it possible that Air in the system causes this problems? I´ve been running the engine for all together maybe 30 minutes and driving it about 5 miles, thought if there was air in it it should be fine by now. During the test ride it deffinately didn´t shoot oil, it shooted oil after turning the engine off!!!!
Did it leave a mark? Oil or transmission fluid, fix your story so it makes sense, thanks..... Something got into the transmission vent p***age and causes pressure buildup. I have seen this on 700r4's. and blows out the dipstick AFTER the engine is shut off.
Story is fixed. It was transmission fluid of course. No it didn´t leave a mark, during the engine run everything seemed fine.
You may want to go to the cl***icoldsmobiles.com site and look at the transmission section. IIRC those slimjims had a rubber thingy that went on the dipstick and I think it took care of what you are talking about.
All ridy then, now we can get down to work.... Your transmission has no ball(s) in the dipstick tube causing it to puke FLUID (not oil). Check the end of the tube.
Been there last night. You are right! There ain´t no ball in it. I didn´t know that there belongs one. There must have been air in the transmission. I was checking oil by running engine and dipstick showed bubbles in the oil. I put the car on a lift and let it run in D-range for about 30 minutes and after that the bubbles were gone. Found another dipstick and tube, too. And yeah there is a ball at the lower end. Problem solved! Thanks
