So I was thinkin of painting my car flat black and came across this thread..I was wondering about the SEM HRB...would you do a flat clear over that stuff or no? Is there any kind of flat black paint that you could throw some flat clear over to protect it/make it easier to clean up?

vividlyvintage suggested the tech wax routine on satin black so I decided to try it out on my 27 (painted with SEM Hot Rod Black) What a difference ! It really didn't make it shiny, like I feared, but just brought it back to what it looked like when the paint was fresh.

I also noticed that rain and dirt clean off easier, and I still use Mothers Detailer to do quicky cleanups. I had the occ***ion to call SEM for another question and mentioned to them about the tech wax and they were surprised to hear it worked, they said it was probably because you simply put the wax on and do not let it dry, just wipe it right off. They said if you let it dry you would then be buffing the surface, which could lead to shiny in spots and dull in other spots.

My car has been so much easier to maintain since vividlyvintage mentioned that tip............thanks VV. :)

I had black epoxy primer on my cowl hood i made for my car and i used this stuff called 303 Aerospace Protectant is works great and has a 40 spf protectant in it to help keep paint and vinyl from fading. Works great on the vinyl bed covers also and a little goes a long way once you get it warm. Works excellent and protects against sun fade.
Here is a link to the stuff.....

Can usually get it at parts stores or most truck and van places.

  9. Actually aside from the other suggestions a DA works wonders it'll clean the flat black right off of it.

You could help yourself out a ton, once you get it clean lay a couple of coats of flattened clear over it. No more chalk spots, give it a rinse an a quick wipe and you're done.

    Flat paint is officially p***e.

I just got back from Europe and saw no fewer than a dozen BMW's and Mercedes' painted flat black, silver, and gray......from the factory. When you see that, you know the trend is over. Kinda like hearing your favorite hard rock song on the elevator musak.......
