first mockup done, first blood shed

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fuzzybear, Jul 4, 2011.

  1. got to have a "play" in the shed this weekend and did a rough mockup of the chevy just to see how it'd look. now im so excited i just wanna dive in head first. while i was trying to get the cowl to sit on the chassis (by myself) i dropped it and got my hand jammed between the jagged bottom edge of the cowl and the chassis:eek:. so anyway it's seen the blood, just the sweat and tears to come

so anyway here's some pics. my son, Charlie got in on the act too, he's almost as excited as i am:D. he told me to go and buy some wheels for the back so we could take it for a drive.P.S. sorry about the crappy phone pics, my camera hates me

The mock up looks great , good to see your son happy to...have fun.. Rod.

  4. thanks rod. i set it up at ride height last night (as it would sit with a 31 inch rear tyre and a 26 inch front). i'll get some more pics up when i can. i does it fairly high at the moment but i figure it'll be easier to lower it later if it's too high than to raise it. i'm going for a hiboy style. i really like these two, sorry i can't remember where i got the pics

Keep at it now mate. A little bit every night and week-end and you will finally get there.
I try and spend at least 1/2 hr. every day on my pick up or buy some little thing I need for the project and I am now seeing alot of difference since I started.

    Rocky.

  6. thanks rocky, i try to get out to the shed as much as possible. i met rod hadfield once and he told me if you finish one job each day, you'll be done in no time. so thats what im trying to do

    I like what you're doing!

Make sure your tetnas shots are up to date. Those cuts from rusty old iron can be really bad.

  10. yeah it's gonna have a transverse spring and wishbone, i'm gonna see if i can keep the bones unsplit but if i hafta split em for engine clerance i'll mount em close together under the chassis. i would have liked to keep parallel leaves but the chassis had no front suspension in it when i got it and ford stuff is easier to find

yeah i got my shots about 3 weeks ago. i thort that to myself when it happened:rolleyes:

That will make a nice rod. Here is a '29 that I built for a guy when I lived in Indiana.

  12. pretty cool tom. do you happen to know the dimensions of the hood? i'm putting a straight 6 in mine and would like to put a hood on it. thort it'd be easier to use a ready made one than modify mine

Sorry, I don't remember. That was built in the early 90's. Maybe you can just add some 18 gauge to lengthen it. I like the idea of using a six.

  14. yeah thats what i was thinkin. if it comes to modifying it i may even make a new one out of aluminium

  15. i got a little more done. it's hard to see in the pic but its set at ride height. i'm currently in the process of making some mockup wheels out of thick plywood (scavenged off the tops of used shipping pallets;)). i'll hafta finish that tomorrow, adjoining house and garage means no power tools while the kids are in bed. my mission for the weekend is to move the motor and gearboxfrom my father-in-law's shed into mine, which may not be an easy task being that it's rained non stop for about a month and the paddock you hafta drive through to get to the shed is pretty boggy. plus the door to the shed is siezed shut:rolleyes:. oh well, it can't be all beer and skittles. i'll keep you posted
