You've probably heard of somebody's "moldy old pickup", but have you ever actually seen one? This was at an antique truck show in Riverside today. It's an old Dodge, and the passenger side is covered with mold! The growth is particularly lush on the wooden sideboard, but even the painted surfaces have a respectable growth. I had imagined that the automotive finishes industry did some pretty innovative work in fields like chemistry and optics, but...horticulture?
There you went and did it! I predict that, within the next year, The mold finish will be the new flat black. Mold cars will be all over Ebay, and at least one new magazine will appear catering to rodderZ who are into molds, fungis, and spores.
I think we've just hit a milestone on the HAMB... someone used the word horticulture in a post. Where do we go from here?
Have you ever been to FL? Anything that sits in the shade for any length of time (3-6 months) looks like that.
Hell, any farmer in the cornbellt has a truck that come spring starts sprouting corn in the bed. My cousins dad, let his get cab high last season before doing anything about it.
there's also two bullet holes to the left of the rear glass, i wonder if the mold and gun shots are just some sweet new vinyl graphix?
Anyone remember the cover of R&C with the chicken shit besplotched "patina'd" glass roadster. How many argument did that stupidity start?
that would be kinda like this '54 chevy i found in a barn, had been there for 20+ years, getting shitted away at..
Shit homey...have you ever been to Western Washington State (Seattle and surrounding areas)? Anything that sits in the shade for 3-6 days looks like that
GREAT! Now you tell me! All that green/yellow tint on the roof and cowl....mold! I cleaned it all off 'cause I thought it wasn't in vogue, and was it ever stinky!!
That's it!! For my next roadster, I'm buying a Brookville body and chaining it to the bottom of a pylon at the Huntington Pier for a few months... You fools don't know nuthin about 'Patina' tell your rod has Barnacles!!!
yep same here I scraped off all my green and white stuff I had growing as well the white stuff didn't look like actual mold though sort of like the stuff you see growing on tree bark, and I also removed the wasp nest from the inside top cab corner........
Some years ago my mom's '55 Cad had an aircon leak under the dash, and one morning I discovered a thriving crop of white mushrooms on the passenger side front floor. Didn't occur to me at the time but, with a little cultivation, we could've grown a whole new carpet.
