I'm restoring a '52 Caddy. I LOVE the '56 hubcaps and am not a fan of the '52s. Would it be terrible to put the '56s on it if everything else on the car is original?
If it makes you happy it tickles me plum to death. I know a fella that put an Olds motor in a Ford once.
I wouldn't know the difference from a 49-50-52-, just do it and forget what anyone else may say. It's your baby..
What part of the word "RESTORING" do you not understand? That word is almost heresy here on the HAMB anyway so quit using the word "restoring" when what you are doing is "fixing up an old car" and there won't be a problem with using whatever hubcap you want on it, even Lincoln's. Will the deep '56 cap fit on a '52 wheel? I don't remember. '57's do but you might need to use '56 wheels with the '56 caps.
He was looking for opinions, DrJ-you added insight and technical info. Please refrain from this again or I shall have to report you!!!
do it and then when the guy at the show tells you that you have the wrong battery for that trim style, berate him for overlooking the hubcaps. you love the 56 hubcaps, and not the 52's...do it
I had a 67 Lincoln with Caddy caps on it once. I didn't tell anyone and no one said anything about it good or bad. just don't paint your wheels red. remember red wheels are out, black wheels are the new red wheels, so soon the posers will be hating black wheels. that's my opinion.
Do it... Then make a nice display for your trunk featuring the old caps and a little sign that says: "Now, doesn't it look much better WITHOUT these?"
Yep...I like this statement...I always saved the original parts...just in case...but usualy..the new owner made it his anyway...d32
I once put banana's on a peanut ****er and jelly sandwich without asking first and I got yelled at for calling it a peanut ****er and jelly sandwich, because it wasn't a peanut ****er and jelly sandwich anymore.
its your car, if you like it do it, who cares what other people think about it. i dont build my cars to please anyone but myself.
You are asking a bunch of hot rodders and kustomisers whether or not you should keep your car stock Paul
by restoring do you mean to like concours condition? if so leave the 52 caps on it or by restoring do you mean simply rebuilding it if so do what you like if your simply rebuilding it and you hang around here too long and listen to the guys who respond to your posts you will be chopping, shaving, pancaking, sectioning and adding parts from many other sources and eventually will have a mustang 2 rack and pinion steering and airbags and other hoodlum type mods ...which do you want
