54 chevy tailgate question

I recently purchased a 54 chevy pickup that has no tailgate with bed boxes.
i want to put a tailgate on it. i measured the opening and it is 50inches wide by 20.5 inches tall. could someone with a 54 chevy pickup give me the dimensions of their tailgate?

 

54-87 chevy stepside trucks used the same tailgate....but I only have fleetsides so I can't measure. 50" sounds right, so does 20.5" tall. 53 and older had a shorter height tailgate.

 

there is an aluminum skin over the back where no original metal is visible. I will have to mount it myself, i just need to know if a stock tailgate will work or if it will need to be modified...

 

I would go look at any 54 to 87 stepside pickup truck bed that I could find, long or short will all be the same for your purposes. Peel that aluminum off with out fear, replacement parts are available through a thousand sources. Mar-K makes good parts for these beds. Just figure out what's missing, and replace it. Some welding may be required if your luck runs like mine does. Still not a big deal though.

 

50 3/4" x 19" on the '54 stocker.
50 7/8 x 15 1/2" on the 47-53 repop I have.
