First of all, this car ISN'T mine! (...yet.) I found it sitting in the Mohave desert wayyy out in the middle of nowhere. The owner has a few interesting vehicles sitting around including a late 30s Chevy, an early thirties truck with a stake bed, some early forties pickup (not ford or chevy... perhaps international?). He or she certainly doesn't look like a collector or a hot rod builder, but there's no real way of knowing.

Anyway, this sedan is just sitting there in the desert baking in the 115 degree sun. All I've been able to find out so far is that it hasn't moved in the last 5 years and nobody seems to remember the last time it was moved. I had quite a zoom lense to be able to spot it and it's probably about four miles off of any paved road. Certainly NO through traffic!

I thought if nothing else, perhaps others would enjoy seeing the picture. I plan to find out if it could be bought, but I'm not planning on losing any sleep over it.

What would you do? And what kind of value would you place on it?

I would have that in my garage today for $1500. Seems like anything close to this in Las Vegas is a minimum $7500. People around here are real proud of old tin

Haha, $7500..... Theres not much there, a old junk frame and a piece of a weathered body., i just noticed that 80's chevy truck beside it with a moroso sticker on the back window, yep he probably wants $5000 now.

Hmmm, big building with a roll-up door, decals in the back window of the truck?? Dont have to be a detective...

This is how the conversation will probably go: "Sell it?! No, I'm going to fix'er up." And it will still be sitting in that spot 10 years from now.
SOMETIMES you get the alternate script, which is "Sell it? I suppose I might...if the price were right. That's a rare antique, you know. I'd let'er go for $8000."

No doors, not worth much then, $500 for the ch***is and ahh, maybe $600 for the body.

If he has the doors I would say the body would be worth $2000 then. Doors are key my friend, they are a ***** to find and when you find a good one its $$$$.

Dude, they are out there. I know where there are a 34 Ply sitting next to a 56 Olds. Havent moved in 10 years. There is a 49/50 Merc with the top whacked off and a red flake paint job by the road on the way to see the other two. I know of a 64 ghia that also hasnt moved for 12 years at least. There was a 37 Ply that sat for a veeeeery long time that the guy who was holding out for 10K croaked an it finally went home.
BTW, performance stickers generally mean theyre gonna know what they have.

It seems like you would at least need to wear a glove or something down there.

  17. Well, if it was up here in New York, you could get $2000, $2500 out of it no problem. But $600? To replace the subrails and floors is $500 in one of these. I could cut just the body apart and do $1000 and still have the back panel and both quarters left.

Both the doors are inside of it.Looks like the body is just sitting on the frame. Out in the middle of nowhere you say.Not a good idea with the telescopic lens, never can tell when a rifle scope can be looking back at you. Dude probably has shop full of stuff.Keep hunting.

I "painted" that out because of the owner's liscense plate numbers in the background.

As for doors, I believe they're stashed inside it. I can't really tell though...

Really I just thought it was an interesting picture and thought I'd share it, not looking to create a stir on here.

About a year ago someone was out on the road with a pair of binoliculars, and drove on up the road, I followed them just past my place and they were stopped, I asked what they were doing, turns out they were counting the friggin birds, I kept the double barrel below the door so as not to cause a problem with the birders.

You know I had that happen a couple years ago too. I was pulling in the drive at my parents place, after shooting trap that afternoon, to feed the horses and collect eggs while they were on vacation. So I pull in that evening and see a truck, that I dont recognize, loaded with stuff that I do recognize.

Needless to say the sound of my 12 ga. shucking a round had two ***es that were stealing tools acting very politely. They even volunteered to sit and wait for the sheriff to give them a ride to town.

As far as using nods to scope out what someone has on their property, I think that Id react much in the same fashion. Id hate to see you on the receiving end for just being curious. Who knows how paranoid the owner is, or if hes dealt with people that would rather steal his stuff than ask to buy it.
