Alright, so here is the deal. Got a bit of work done this weekend but for some reason only took one picture. Anyway, Saturday we fabbed up a throttle linkage and got the dash back in the car. Tonight I am hoping to get the waterfall back on the dash along with the switches and knobs and such. Yesturday we got all the interior winshield trim painted along with the glovebox, which I did take a picture of, probobly becuase it's really sparkley lol. I hope I can get it ****oned up and take her for a ride the 4th of July weekend! Whoo Hoo

So, the waterfall is back on the dash and almost completely ****oned the rest of the way up. Just a few pieces left. The rear bumper is painted and will be mounted on the car tonight, and the front bumper will be ***embled tonight as well! Here's a few pics.

Buick looks good. Won't be long now. I was wondering what paint and primer you sprayed? How much paint does it take to cover that much car?

Well, I used the hot rod black primer that I found online from a place in jersey and it was like $30 for a gallon. Sprayed it on half primer/half acetone. 3 coats of that and block sanded smooth. Then sprayed with John Deere Blitz Black paint $27 a gallon which is mixed half blitz black, half mineral spirits. With the black primer I think we used 3/4 of a gallon, and the paint was just about the same. And that was 3 coats of paint on the car. The roof of the car is going to be the same candy blue that is on the top of the dash with a heavy metal flake!

Ok, so this past weekend was eventful! On Saturday I was able to get the front seat in the car ****on up a few small things and take the car for a ride down the road, Woo Hoo! I drove to the gas station threw some gas in it and drove back home, maybe 2 miles. Car seemed to run pretty good for the first time down the road in about 6 years. She started stumbling a touch going uphill in first gear but ended up smoothing out. Saturday early evening my buddy Spgill2000 (Sean) stopped by and we decided we would go for a ride around the block. So as we are cruising the car is running good and bam, I hear a tink tink tink and I am getting water on my feet and then the smell, antifreeze. I was very close to home so we cruised in the driveway popped the hood and the radiator cap is still on the car and it’s not even wet up front. Upon further inspection one of the freeze plugs popped and puked all of the fluid out on the road. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Well jump in Sean’s 66 New Yorker and off we are to the parts store, mind you it’s 9:30pm at this time. AutoZone had the proper freeze plug, grabbed some radiator flush and we were off. Took the radiator out and flushed it about 6 or 7 times every which way but loose and also flushed the block. Apparently at some point a mouse made a nest in the radiator and it got ****ed thru to the block, but we got it cleaned up and back to running! Ran the car for about ½ hour just idling without a thermostat and the radiator didn’t build any pressure at all. Took it for another ride and everything seemed right as rain. Parked her back in the garage and decided to call it a night.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
So yesterday it was 104 degrees at my house, but, works gotta get done and my wife is working until 10pm. Pulled the car out and decided to make up an exhaust. Straight pipe to the rear bumper sounds good to me! Checked the radiator for fluid, good to go. Ok let’s take a ride back to the gas station and put some air in the tires, just an excuse to drive the damn thing. Aired up the tires, answered a bunch of questions from everybody getting gas and headed back. Going up the hill I get the same stutter from the day before when hitting the gas, today though it doesn’t smooth out, Oh Boy…. Pulled over to the side of the road, popped the hood, maybe were overheating? Pulled the radiator cap tab, nothing…. A guy in a 57 Chevy pulls up behind me and says, hmmm you got no fuel in your fuel filter and when you crank it over your pump’s not pumpin…… Neat, well long story short, coasted the car home, downhill, with some pushing effort from the 57 Chevy guy, Sean, and myself…… I guess that’s why you don’t drive to far when doing your shakedown run’s…… But hey progress is progress, now I’m off to find a fuel pump rebuild kit. Here is one pic Sean took while at the gas station.

There is a listing for a fuel pump rebuild on e-bay in the 51 buick catagory. It was $90. Good to see you continue to make progress.

Fuel pump rebuilt! rebent some new fuel line to the the carb, connected everything and primed the fuel lines, BAM, she's a runner again! Took her for a small ride and she seemed right as rain. Even got to take my wife for her first ride in the Ol Buick, she was very excited and burst out with , "we better get the rest of the seats recovered this week" Also put in an aftermarket temp gague and got the dash lights working...... We actually drove home without issue from this shakedown run, YEAH BUDDY!!!!

Ok, so no pictures, but we took the front seat out of the car last night to get it ready for a seat recover. DAMN is all I can say. I had no idea a mouse nest could be that big lol. So on with the rubber gloves and a good cleaning along with sterilization and WALA, ready for new stuffing and recovering! Maybe tonight I can get her covered up. Can't do anything tomorrow night, got tickets to see my favorite band of all time, STEELY DAN! I will get some pics of the process this time.

  15. Good on you Chuck. What are you using for a seat cover? If you go the Mexican blanket route let me know. I've done quite a few of them Todd

Thanx Todd, I actually am going the old school Duck cloth route, hog ringed like the original. My wife helped me cover the rear bottom and I think it came out fantastic.

By the way, you are going to Milltown right? I am fairly confident that will be the Buick's first long run.

Seats, that is what I worked on this past weekend, covering and making seats. All in all I think it came out quite well. I have to get some more duck cloth to finish the seat backs for the back, but I should be able to finish that up tonight. I also filled the front shocks with Hydro jack fluid and wow what a difference. Last night I was out in the driveway until 10pm doing the rear shocks and of course taking a test ride. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
so I think the clutch may be going bad, she kinda has a chirp while rolling in 3rd gear. Anybody got one? Another question would be new rear end gears? In 3rd gear the rpm's are high at about 50.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
I am still hoping to have a nice long ride up to Milltown on Saturday, that will be one hell of a shakedown run......<o:p></o:p>

So Saturday I got up nice and early and washed the car, rainX'd the windows, cleaned out the trunk, and put a tool pouch together in anticipation for the Buick's first "real" run up 169N into M*** for the Milltown show. Everybody but myself was working so our plan was to meet up at 4:30 and cruise up for the end of the show. We took off ontime and made it up the hilly windy roads of 169. As we were chugging up one of the longest hills on the route I noticed my temp gauge was rising so we pulled over in Pomfret (45 minutes into the ride) to cool down and check fluids. Needless to say, I believe I need a new radiator, but we were in pretty good shape, so just a quick re-fill of fluids and opening the manifold heat valve and we should be on our way...... Well should be on our way are the right words for this situation, now Spgill2000's car wont start and we need some starting fluid, which is the one thing I forgot to bring with me. Luckily my car was running, Sean and I cruised down to the parts store, grabbed a can of starting fluid a quick spritz and his 66 was a runner. At this point we are looking at it being 7:30 and the rain is on its way into the area. Still and hour and a half ride to go? Ok back to Spgill's house grab the truck and get some dinner.

We did make it to Milltown, at about 10:00pm but boy o boy its the experiences that make it all worth it! Grin and bear it, and laugh your *** off, one of these days its bound to work out!

Anyway here are a few pics, of the Buick all cleaned up and ready to roll!

Might try to get the roof painted this weekend, along with replacing the throwout bearing. Yeah it was more funny than anything else, I'm not one to sweat the small stuff anyway. Thanks for the posative feedback....... Now I need a set of skirts, maybe I can talk the wife into getting some for by Bday in September hmmm

Ok, so I now have full time lake pipe exhaust. Sounds good, looks good, feels good! Next step is changing the rear end gearing, clutch and throw-out bearing, and painting the roof! Going to be a busy summer.

Alright, so I finally shot the roof of the Buick over the weekend. Just need to wet sand it and shoot another 2 coats of clear. You can't really see it in the pic, but it is metalflake blue and matches the top of the dash.
