Hey John....grew up myself on the Amarillo Dragway track....late 50s-early 60s. Was up there a few weeks ago to visit with an old HS buddy who's still building streetrods....in fact I drove my '39 Chev up there from south Texas...me and my buddy spent almost a week messin with cars....it happened to be a Route 66 Festival w/car show happening...and on a Friday night we found out they were having a "test & tune" night out at Amarillo Dragway...went out and, predictably, had a ball....we met the one of the new track owners and told him..."man, this is the first time we've (me and my buddy) been out here together since 1963"! He laughed and said, "well, get another car together and come on out and run". Before we left my buddy was already planning to get a car together to bring out....so guess I'm gonna have some repeat trips back up to Amarillo.

Those were were without a doubt the best days of drag racing.....low buck guys could run what you brung and the crowds loved it!
