Is it possible for the gear oil in the tranny to travel through the torque tube on an enclosed drive setup, this is a 3 spd in a 48 chevy car, also will a 39-40 chevy 1/2 ton 3 spd top loader bolt right up in this car.I appreciate any help with this,as my car tranny seems to be wanting to hang up in two gears(OUCH) hadn't broke anything yet but somethings not right. Thanks

Yes, especially if the old Chevy was a little nose high and/or parked on an incline a lot, as kids we would regularly drain the excess fro th dif and readd it to the tranny. Thanks for the memory, I had a good giggle about that one! As to the tranny question some will and some have a different bolt spread on the gear box but you could use the bell housing to make it work.

Please look up "Okie bushing" to remedy your problem. Jim Carters and others have them. This will eliminate the need to remove the original failed bushing. This just goes on top.

Thanks for the replies,my problem turned out to be low on gear oil,put in maybe almost a quart and moved the car back & forth a few times and that solved the problem as for the vacum assisted shift I had already removed that thinkin it was the culpret,Drove it today and it did just fine, the ole chev purred down the road,my brother inlaw has a 39-40 1/2 ton with a 3 spd top loader and said I could have it so I'm gonna get it and look it over,it might make a good replacement some time down the road.again Thanks a bunch,Randy
