My uncle and I decided to take the front lip off along with the bed. Finally some progress on this truck. Now I can get down to business.

Dricers side front bottom cab where the bottom of the fender attaches. Does anyone reproduce that part of the cab?

  4. That ****s... I haven't seen that part in the catalogs, just the fender corner and the back cab corners.

I am afraid to take mine apart after what I found under the floor mat. The floor had rusted above a support and someone filled it in with a tube of black RTV and then applied a tar like sound deadener to the entire floor to blend it in.

Thanks 53olds, the lower fender bolts snapped off and the brackets were rotted and ripped out. Not sure what to do on that.

Here are a few more pics of the project. In the first picture I was wondering if the battery tray is the original one for the truck. It seems to be in the way of the trans dip stick.

If you look close at the first leaf spring at the u bolt closest to the cab, looks as ff somebody cut it or it snapped?

This is the rott on the lower front of the cab.

Here is the rott on the top inner fender(p*** side)

The rear leafs are all crooked.

A few more pics that I took last night.

There were a few of these type of washers on the bolts for the bed, some were on top and some on bottom. Where exactly are they supposed to go?

    Doesnt driveshaft look too angled?

This is the whole that is in the back of the cab on the p***enger side. The metal is peeled out.

    Another picture of the hole.

Well today was a pretty long day and I was burnt out but I wanted to atleast do something o the truck. So I opened up the garage and decided to take off that eye sore diamond plate of a bumper off. It was a b***h getting it off but I did. I will be purchasing new chrome front and rear bumpers later on in the build.

Thanks Hotrod60f100, your truck in the avatar looks really solid.

Does anyone know how these little washers go that are in the picture above?

  15. I looked all over the bed mounts on my 60 and didn't see any of those washers. It may be that I won't be able to see them until I take my bed off. I am sure that someone will have one of the big ***embly books for these truck and it would show them and where they go.

As far as the drive shaft goes, it looks like mine, so we're either both right or both wrong. :)

All I have done with mine is get a 302, but still looking for a ******.
    Keep up the good work.

    Hey thanks alot fauj.

Haha chad who knows. So do you still have that tail gate?

  18. 56, I'm with fauj, both my 58 and 59's driveshaft sit like that.. you have to remember a ford 9" center section isn't exactly centered.. Not a problem at all, and in truth is actually better on your U-Joints because the needle bearings in them need the off-set angles to wear and function properly.. 3 to 5 degrees from what i've been told.. And the washers? who knows.. i haven't seen a washer like that on either of mine.. could be just a previous owner using whatever he had laying around.. I do that all the time.. (oh and did you ever get the pics i emailed you)

Well I got a bit more done on the truck this weekend. I took the front and rear bumpers off and i used a couple different wire wheels on my drill to get all the dirt, grime and rust off of the frame. It came out pretty clean. I have a few more spits to hit then it will be ready for paint. Im not sure if i should use por 15 or if I shpuld use rustoleum. My buddy said he used rustoleum on his frame and it came out nice and was pretty durable. I will post pics of the progress right after work today.

Also my front and rear springs are shot and i want to lower the truck as much as I can without bagging and clipping the frame. Any ideas or shops around CA that sells full kits?

This is how most of the frame looks now.

I couldnt believe how much came off the frame. Im getting it all ready to prep and paint the frame and axle. Like I have posted before Im not sure if I should use por 15 or rustoleum on the frame and axle. Also would I need to shoot a primer before either one of those?

I don't think you would need to primer it..just guessing.

Just a tip, I've found that POR-15 has miserable adhesion on clean metal. It really prefers some surface rust.

Anyonr else? I want to get the frame, rear axle and suspension done soon. What have you all used to paint your frames?

Also my wirring is pretty bad. I was thinking about buying the original style harness from the truck shop in orange. Anyone know anything about that harness? I would like to keep it mostly original with the wirring and possibly later convert it to alternator. I was looking at the harness where it connects at the firewall and it looks like a bulkhead. Does anyone make an exact reproduction harness or one that will use all the original holes and what not on the firewall and rest of the truck?
