I recently got a few vintage hot rod mags from 57 58 in the back they have an ad for club plauqes there waqs one called the turtles and i was wondering how i would find out if this was a legit club name because i would like to start my own turtle cc low and slow just a thought is there a site where you can look thanks
Beside google and bing check the state controller office that they are/were located in - they register corp names
check this directory http://www.oldride.com/clubs/ they have a complete list of clubs - put the state in after the slash
first, delete the other duplicate thread you have going with same subject. O'Brien Truckers has made plaques for a long time, check their site. so, going to have your own one man car club? why not join an existing club? more fun with others. not as easy and cheap as you may think to start a club, and keep it going.
...And they register cars with superchargers thru the NHRA to keep track of them. Saw Broderick Crawford catch some Hot Rod '29 blown Olds roadster stickup artists that way. Want to know how many car clubs there were at one time with the same name? Lots. I recall that name on a plaque (a few of them, actually. "Slo-Pokes", "Prowlers", "Idlers", believe me, there are more) The 'unwritten rule' in the day was no 2 (or more) clubs with the same name to a town. (or county?) Get on O'Brien Truckers site, he has plaques from back then. You will see many of the same name with different towns, counties, and states. The only ones that are (were) registered were the ones that were incorporated. (Gear Jammers, inc) The 'corporation moniker' always made it look less than a real hot rod club to me... But it was a necessity, as someone involved in any mishap or accident that involved a car with a club plaque could SUE the whole club! There was a club in Santa Clara that called for 5 'custom features'. A new prospect was being 'interviewed', and was called on to list his 5 custom features. He recounted: "Color primer, pipes, left door handle shaved off, right door handle shaved off, trunk molded." The club was the "Wheelin' Saints". (primarily a '50 Chevy and '55 Buick club...but nobody else ever used their name. Laughable...)
this list is horribly incomplete and appears to only list a very small amount of active clubs at least the california list is from looking at it. I do not know of a better site, google would be a start
@ joker was in 2 clubs tired of bs and club members trying to fight one another it was a thought as far as double post i have a ****ty laptop that shuts down so wasnt aware that it posted twice but thanks for the help
I believe the Turtles plaque was a stock item that could be ordered from any number of places back in the 50's and 60's. These were sold to clubs that didn't want to invest in having a pattern made and this is probably the plaque you saw in the ad ..... Dennis O'Brien has the original pattern for this plaque and you can contact him for more info about ordering some.
this is the best site to see what club names are legit and taken... you can look up by state too.. http://www.relicsandrods.com/carclubplaques.htm
the national turtles club has a test. It is only one question. Do you own a donkey?? Those that are members know the answer but are sworn to not revel.. thank you...
