How's it goin everyone. Been a member over at garage journal and lurking here, but after dealing with the Nazi mods over there i decided to call it quits

Anyways I have a question about some hvlp gravity fed guns. I bought one off eBay to do some minor stuff, repaint an old toolbox, paint my bobber tank, engine block. Anyways I bought this mini gun that holds a quart for .99 cents, I thought there would be someone else bidding on it, but I guess not so I won the thing

So basically, Im not painting any show cars or anything, so how bad can this gun actually be? I mean all it is is gravity fed paint and air, which I'll have a reg on the gun of course. With a few different tips and some set up, will I be able to make this thing work ok?

I'll try and post some pics

Haha nope, far from an A Hole actually! It's really just 1 mod in particular. I only had 100 posts over there and I have never shown any attitude whatsoever. This one guy for some reason just started being a dick to me for no reason. Calling my questions common sense and trying to downgrade me, all for no reason at all

Then I posted a ad in the classifieds, I chose to reply to it since I wanted to lower the price. Then I get a pm from that same guy saying I self bumped and he locked me out of the forum and gave me an infraction

So that's the story. I'm no asshole and I'll never act like one here. I'm just here to learn and share the knowledge I have, and network with guys and gals that are into the same style as myself

Well he did an intro, so you can't ding him for that. But, wow talk about ballsy. Yeah I'm sure that 'Ryan' guy who's a mod over at the garage journal is a completely different guy

You do realize this is the SAME orginization right??? There may be a lot of (as YOU put it, not a fan of that word myself) "NAZI" -members, but the mods do a pretty damn good job on all of the related sites around here.....HAMB,Jockey Journal, Garage Journal, etc.

Anyways, wheres that "popcorn eating smiley" this thread may get interesting, or closed real sooon.

Ok I already got off on the wrong foot here hah. There's a ton of great guys over at garage journal. Just one guy in particular kept picking me out of all the different threads and ads and was just being a little overboard. I only had this experience with 1 guy.

So you're saying the mods over there are the mods here??

And I have heard a lot of good things about Ryan, I don't know who he is personally, but anyways back to my HVLP question? Anybody have any insight for me

Most of us are members here and at the other "sister" sites, and mods here are members there and members there are mods her and the like. Ryan runs the places. We all keep in contact with each other.
I am pretty sure THIS SITE is the roughest of the bunch so tread litely and dip you feet in a little at a time and all "should" be O.K. You did do an intro so you have stepped forward more than many "newbies" lately...
    Just some friendly advice!!!

IDK, I have paint guns ranging from say about $30 to $500... The cheaper ones are good enough for primer or chassis work, etc. but my "good" paint gun is worth every dollar..

Don't be offended if this thread gets deleted, it really ain't on topic...

Thanks. I realize all forums can get brutal, I'm sure I won't be apart of those threads. I just don't wanna be picked on dang it! Lol

Thanks for the info. If the parts wear out fast then I should be ok considering I'm only gonna use it for small projects here and there.

What's the best bang for the buck hvlp, something that won't be used all the time, but want it to work well when I need it

I won't get offended. So for your lower end guns, what would you recommend? I mean I'm not going to be painting any high class cars. I'm not a awesome painter but I think I am pretty good when it comes to cut and buff. So if I can get enough decent coats, I think I'll be fine with the finished product after my cut n buff

I think you need to try your gun with whatever you intend to spray with it and see for yourself. There are folks on here that would insist on the very best guns, and others that couldn't tell the difference in the high end and the latest Harbor Freight special, and all of them are probably satisfied for their needs.

I personally find the newer BC/CC systems to be well suited to the gravity HVLP guns and more forgiving of lower quality guns. On the other hand, I think the old school lacquers and enamels are best used with old school siphon guns of the best quality you can get your hands on.

HVLP guns are basically good for things like painting cabinets and shooting stain on the outside of a wood house....painting a car? NO.

One of the 'issues' with those guns is that you can't have the paint/clear coat too thick...otherwise, it won't flow down.

You will also see a lot more splatters....

If you use one....make sure you use a filter as you pour your paint into the container.

BTW....what was your screen name over ag GJ?

HVLP is the only legal gun to use in most of Calif. Like any tool takes some getting use to after using the older style guns. They save about 30-40 percent on material. If you are painting in your garage there well be a lot less overspray. a plus. Spray some test panels to see how it works GL

One thing to remember about any spraygun, Is clean it very good. How you clean it translates into how well it lasts reguardless of price.
