Really need some help on my 1950 M-II install. I have a 47-54 tube cross member to install. If I use the measurement given on the instructions 18 1/8" back from the center of the front spring shackle it does not line up with the orginal straight axle center line. Its off by about 5/8". The orginal straight axle is 5/8" futher towards the back of the truck. I read where the GMC's are 2" longer than the the Cheverolet's Could anyone give me some advise? Thanks
Check up with 67-72chevytrucks.com. There is a whole sub-forum on there for the 47-55 first series chevy/gmc trucks. I am sure someone there has your answer if you cant get one here.
Most old trucks look better with the front axle centerline moved forward a bit. especially the 53-56 F-100 for example. 5/8 inch is not much and i bet the value is where it looks good. If it really bothers you, put it where you want.
I agree. I was looking at some orginals on the net and noticed the wheel/tire was set off-set to the rear of the truck just a bit. I'am going with the directions and this will move the the wheel/tire towards the front 5/8". I also noticed the rear needs to moved back an 1 1/2" or so? Do you have any thoughts on that? Thank you very much for the reply and advise! crusinforty
