I just found out that a guy that works with my mom junked a COMPLETE red ram hemi. And when I say junked I don't mean he took it to the junk yard. He totally dis***embled it and cut the heads and block into pieces and sold it for s****. :( All it needed was rings and bearings.

Another piece of history died so some jack wagon could make a quick buck. Just wanted to share my frustration with you guys.

Why are people so stupid? I could have used that motor. We're surrounded be them.

He obviously boned it because he is not a car guy. No surprise here. Lots of guys that been hoarding for some time are ready to do that with all the hardship that many have been going through over the last few years. They have a hard time sellin and get fed up and bone it. Its a better feeling having a roof over your head than a pile of iron to look at.

That **** happens all the time on really cool stuff that we could use.

  5. Yup people these .......my parents' old neighbor did something very similar to an all original STARLINER he was the 1st and only owner of it. I hounded him for years but it was "never for sale". We never even discussed a price he just ***umed I wouldn't give him what the s****-yard offered.I would have easily matched their price if not doubled it

It might make you feel better if you let him know just how valuable it was and how much he could have sold it for.

I missed out on one of those neat little 1960's Daimler 'hemi' V8 engines a couple of years back. Old bloke sold it to the s**** dealer, who smashed the alloy heads to get them off the iron block, then tossed the broken bits into his truck. S****py paid him a whole $35 for it too, and all it had wrong with it was one bent rod!

Some people just don't get it.

    Cheers, Glen.

That story really doesnt make any sense.

It would cost more in cutting materials to chop that stuff up than what it would cost to s**** it? Maybe with a torch but really come on?

Thats still GAY as H.E. Double Hockey Sticks.

Not every one with old cars or old car parts are 'car guys' (or gals). Many (even here on the HAMB) are just guys with cars (or parts). They don't know the difference either.

its way easier to load it into the back of your truck when its in 4 20lb peices then one 200lb piece. less awkward to carry too...

  20. the brother of a guy i used to work with (i think he may be a HAMBer but not sure) was talking a guy into selling him a tunnel rammed hemi out of a 70's dragster. the guy said the hemi was in his parents shed but he was just in the process of mending fences after a long period of non-communication. anyway when he finally got to asking his dad about the motor he told him he got sick of it being in the way and sent it to the s****per along with alot of other interesting stuff this guy had. i bet that kicked off another long period of non-communication.

That shizz takes to much time batman.

It would take you less time to get it loaded then cut it up, use your brain.

One time some prisoners of war ground an entire hemi motor into tiny crumbs so they could shake them out of their pants legs without the guards noticing.

    .

About 15 years ago my neighbor and I were down at pick a part unloading a car.
I parked the car to the right just inside the gate as instructed and was cleaning it out When I heard 3 guys about 100 feet away, they were looking under the hood of something that had a front bumper like a superbee (it had 4 doors, cornet?) and they were talking about the engine....

guy: "That looks like a hemi"?
buddie: "I think it is a hemi"?
dude: "yeah, it's a 426" (dude wonders off)
guy: "I wonder if they sell whole cars"
buddie: "I was wondering the same thing"
guy: "yeah but I saw it first"
buddie: "No you didn't, I was checking the whole car out when you walked up and looked under the hood"
guy: "No you weren't, I saw the car first"
buddie: "Nope, I was checking out the car when you walked up to the open hood"
guy: "Na, I was looking under the hood when you showed up"
buddie: "Sorry man, I was here first and I'm calling dibs"
guy: "********, I saw the car first"

This went on for a minute or so then Dude came back.

Dude: "Guys, the car is sold, please keep your hands off of it, I'm going to arrange to have it towed to home"
    buddie::eek:
    guy::mad:

This all happened at pick a part (before it was called pic-n-pull).

Threads like this pop up all the time. How long does a guy post adds,Here and elsewhere just to get all beaten down. With people that want to pay peanuts on the dollar. I would bone it also. A person just gets sick of all the ***holes that are a**** us. I have also boned some decent **** lately because just got tried of all the ***holes that walk this planet.

Its just easier to walk away with your real cash than dealing with people that want but don't want to pay your price your reasonable price.

Its that simple... Cash In Hand... Zero Aggravation..... Guaranteed to get paid....

X2 ... I saw a complete 331" hemi at the L.A.Roadsters show with an asking price of $2500. I'm not up on the hemi market, but a complete motor has to be worth way more than the s**** value....

Edit - 7/10/11 - A recent issue of Old Cars Weekly featured an auction in Missouri. Included was a '58 Chrysler 392" which looked to be complete less intake and carb(s). Sold for $900 ... still a lot better than s**** value.

If something collectible is advertised for sale at a reasonable price then it will sell. But when you want more than its worth then maybe its only worth the s**** price, so sell it for the s**** price, just don't send it off to become a Toyota . I see a lot of old cars that are really only worth 2 or 3 hundred dollars because of all the work they will take to fix.If s**** is paying that much I would rather sell it for that to a car guy who could use it instead of hold out for more money than its worth and end up crushing it.
