Well, it looks like im broke, and need to get a paint job. What do all decent americans do when their broke? They go to mexico. So I have two choices. 1.}anybody have an idea on how much it would run to get a paint job from mexico? I only have to worry about theft.... and being a gringo. And as I see it, any paint job is better than Earl Scheib. 2.}get a job and start saving. not a preferable choice because being young and in school, Im restricted to work only so many hours of $7 an hour. And that limit is statewide:25 hours, company wide:15 hours, household wide: 7-10 hours.
I was gonna take cl***es over summer, but I realized it would be 2 years before theyd let me bring in a project. Not many shops around here offer the hours or would think about hiring a 16 year old either.
steal some rattle cans???? you pretty much answered your own question? the more money the better the paint job... get an after school job and save?!? i took a week off school when i was 16 and worked as a chicken to buy my first car... gotta do what ya gotta do!!!! haha then i dropped out... i'm dumb!
You didn't mention anything about body work needing done. If all you need is paint, read some books on it, ask questions and do it yourself. You can buy cheap lines of PPG (Omni) and DuPont (Nason) and get a good paint job for little cash. And you have the satisfaction of saying YOU painted the car.
I got a job as a painter ***t. when I was in school and I got a really sweet paint job on my impala for super cheap
if you do the prep, a MAACO or Earl Scheib paint job isn't so bad, especially compared to spray cans. do the body work, and keep doing it until it's straight. learn it by trying it...
Ha, rattlecan is out of the question. I guess I can try to get a job as some painters ***istant, but Ive checked a couple places even just ot sweep the shop and pick up tools and do odd jos and they all say no, and its unlikely. But for $500 I could pickup a compressor, HPLV gun, and some paint and give it a shot.
I have a differerent outlook on Earl Sheib. Yea, they specialize in a cheap paint job, and a cheap paint job is what you get for $399. I have never dealt with them, but the same goes pretty much anywhere you go. Most of them guys probably have the knowledge to lay out an ***-kickin paint job that looks like you can dig your fingers into it, but again, you wont see it for a few bills. Kinda reminds me of an old ad I seen in a motorcyle magazine from Bell, the helmet manufacturer. It said "If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet." Also, I agree with several who have posted. If it needs prepped, do it yourself. You will screw up here and there, but it's excellent knowledge that you will never forget. I am far from a body/paint man, but I have learned that probably 85% is prep. When it looks "just right", primer it and block it again. Good luck Greg
get to know some body's old man??? my old fart used to do (pretty sweet) paint jobs for a carton of beer, as long as you do the prep work!!!! there's gotta be some guy like that in your 'hood???? just give em a hand sandin' back a car for a few hours...
