413.??!! You will stand out and be different!!

It will be cool because I consider the 413 a traditional engine. I have a BB Mopar in my Newport and it is a great engine. Did I mention that it is EASY to maintain?
    *Distributor is up front
*Intake unbolts quickly for swapping around with no messy hassles regarding water/antifreeze. The raised position of it and being separated by a valley pan keeps the fuel charge a little cooler...
*Oil pump is right there up front for easy access.
*Water pump comes off with four bolts..
*Just like the LA Mopar engines, they feature tried and true shaft mounted rocker arms.

A SBC is not the only way to go. It is the cheapest way to go for sure but if it was the only way to go, they'd be the only game in town wouldn't they??

    Do what makes you happy...

  2. then its a 413 b motor, like as said before it has some spesific parts, mainly the intake, and push rods. other than that.. good to go. that 413 is gonna really be diggin in, you should see if ya can find a cross ram set up for it, those are so wild....

  3. First thing I thought of was "AMT did it" too - but I thought the motor was supposed to be a 426 Max Wedge with the cross-ram intake on it. Who knows, it's been ages since I messed with one of those kits.

I'd say do it, take a tape measure and get the dimensions and go from there.

Oh, and the guy on the reliability thing - you do know people used to drive these cars every single day, very reliably, for years, right? I never had a major mechanical issue with my similar vintage '60 Pontiac and it was my only car for a few years.

  4. I agree with RustyNewYorker... I drove mine like I stole it and the only problem I ever had with it, and it confused the hell out of at the time, was a cracked distributor cap. That thing had so much torque that the hood on my car didn't close right.

looks like I am not the only one who built that Merc model with the 413.

if you put one in your real Merc, it will need a crossram intake.

    Damn .....!!!
Why, why, WHY are people such lemmings ....????
Warning, warning .... do not stray from the herd. Repeat, do not stray from the herd! Baaa, baaa!

(Oh, that's right ... I forgot. You can buy SBC parts anywhere, including any stop & rob, cathedral, fertility clinic, poultry farm or crack house. You can completely rebuild the engine in the parking lot of said establishment using only a Q-tip and an old beer can pull tab, in less than a half hour, without getting your hands dirty, and for less than $12.00 including tax ...!!!
Sigh .... the truly magical SBC. How could I have forgotten? My bad!)

Had a 413 in the family '59 Chrysler. Reliable as an anvil, hauled ass and got pretty damn good mileage.
    Go for it!
