Opinions please, but THINK about WHEN we could do it before you go "yes!". I am THINKING about doing a second, later in the season, Jalopy Showdown. Here is the idea
1- it would be later in the season next year...year #10 for the Showdown, so it may be a one shot deal...who knows. 2- It would be the Jalopy Showdown Invitational. I would pick 100-150 of the best REAL traditional old style hot rods for the infield. Everybody else would be spectators. 3- We would also have the vintage race cars (sprints, midgets, stock cars) run the track the same day, so they would need the pits (where we normally pull into the infield, to the right) All the show cars would have to be behind the fence area, behind the stage. About the third or fourth year of the show we had the vintage race cars run & it was a cool combination. 4- I'd probably do the swap spaces if there was interest, probably a band or two, food & camping. 5- I'm waiting to hear back from the museum on track insurance, this would be for more than one car on the track. Soooo, the biggest problem for new shows these days is finding a date that would not step on another shows date. August-October? let me know if anybody would even show up to just look at stuff I like & not be able to get their car on the infield.

Sounds like a good idea to me, even if I was just a spectator.

So far not too many spectators!

  7. I am looking forward to the chance to see another one of your shows.

Are you talking about Pre-reg approval for top 100 cars or you standing at the gate giving the go ahead nod?

I would go either way. How about Sunday; the day after Hershey's car show

I will be there as a spectator, no invite for me. The spring show was my first one and I had a great time. I will be there with a car one of the next few shows.

As long as it wasn't close time wise to the Jalopyrama I think it would be a good idea.

The weekend or two before the Jalopy Drags would be awesome. I would drive Big Odls but from the sounds of it I would be a spectator I guess but makes no difference to me where I park since I don't take Big Olds on the track anyway.

Also another thing to think about is the weather. If your having an invitational show where some really nice and prominent or historical cars might show up, I'd think that having some back up plans in case the weather changes. If it rains at the Showdown it just gets more fun right? But if you invite some cars that don't see light very often it might scare some to bring out their cars (when referring to the top tier of invited cars).

I guess you could remedy that by inviting more street driven hot rods and less Pebble Beach / Amelia Island concours type show cars.

Ahh, Big Olds is done right, so it would be in. I would just really look forward to a field of really nice, finished, non-billet, non-rat rod shit boxes, hot rods & customs. And we'd have real vintage race cars to watch too! Sounds like I'd have time to relax a little & check out the cars for a change & stand back & look at the Showdown the way I'd really like to see it.
I really appreciate all the support for the museum at the spring show & I'd never change a thing, but I'd by lying if I said this is not my selfish vision of the Jalopy Showdown. :)

Jeffrey, the idea to me is more a field of driven real hot rods more than a tent of museum pieces. I think if it rained the worst that would happen would be you would park in the wet grass more than anything else. Hell, we might even pull the plug if the weather looks crappy because they wouldn't run the race cars...unlike the spring show.

You are allowed to have a selfish vision. More should therefore eliminating said shitboxes and others that don't quite fit the criteria at alot of the other events. Bigger isn't necessarily better in my opinion.

Well, that is for the race cars...we're not completely crazy! Still would be the same one at a time for hot rods.

I really enjoyed being a spectator years ago when the race cars were having the track day. I'd roll out for that.

Anytime after we all come back from the Salt would be good.

I enjoy the music at the Showdown, but it's really background. Probably not necessary when there are race cars AND hot rods to look at.

Get the BBQ guys if you can.
