They didn`t come out in the right order?? So I had a bad starter solonoid changed that and have to go through the brakes so i pulled off the backing platesd and cleaned them up nothing is rusty just old caked up grease etc the wheel bearings are still good and say Ford on them i think thats cool. Remember the car has sat for over 45 years so its prettyn dirty he only washed it quick before he took pics. Let me know what you think. Should i be painting stuff??

YES! not only will it look better, if you dont the crust will be rot in a week around here!
Open the time capsule and make it yours!
Either that or find the biggest deuche on here and give the car to him so we can have fun tearing him apart!:D:eek::rolleyes:

  5. Grate Find Dave i dunt post to much the grammor kops will take over the thread
thease cars are still out there weather stockers or survivors

  6. I think you should be cleaning, painting, greasing, rustproofing....etc....as you work through it all.

Like others said...make sure it's all safe and soundly engineered, but don't do anything drastic.

General maintenance and preventative measure stuff isn't going to change the spirit of the car...it'll only help to preserve it and keep it around longer.

Perfect analogy....it's hard to replace one or two rotten deck boards on your patio, because then you've got a few fresh boards that look outta place in comparison to the rest. But if you rip all the boards off...it ain't the same deck anymore...it's a new one. hahah.

That being said...try to blend fixed up stuff....use flat black paint on the chassis parts that were originally black....etc. Just don't mix diamonds and dirt!

    Good luck.

I sometimes purposely misspell words and use poor grammar to just fit in here :)

  14. Simple answer is yes you should be painting stuff. Everything looks better painted. I take that back, not everything, but everything on that car will look better painted. There's been some cars on this board that nobody should ever put any paint on.

The front rims are early ford general jumbo acc. wheels that have been reversed and chromed. Orginal just the center was chrome and are 14 x 6" wide. Google for info. Darrell

Well, I just found this thread, and although even in it's revised form, the first post is hard to read, it does convey perfectly Dave's excitement.

Well done, Dave, a really nice find.

Just my opinion, but you really must find some wheels for the front, those are really bad for the loading on he bearings and kingpins. Just find some stock 16" forties steels or 15" pickup rims (like a 40 but 15"). That'll help a lot at the front.

I'd be tempted not to spruce it up too much, the survivor look, but made safe is a great way to show off a new old car when it is a true survivor.

Maybe a couple of years down the line you can do a makeover that will make it truly yours and get it all shiny and refurbed, but without losing the essential survivor character.

Nice score and a great story.

    Mart.

EDIT: Just checking some of the pics and I can see you're lifting the front half way up the radius rods - I'd be inclined to lift under the frame or the axle if possible - you might bend the rods.

    Mart.

  18. Doesn't matter what you do or how you do it. The whiners will find you. Been there. If it wasn't for the ability to shrug off the critics this board would be dead. Good for you!

I think your car is awesome as is. A little freshening of the details never hurts.

I'd like to think a young George Lucas may have seen that car and paterned the Graffiti coupe from it for his movie. Be careful how far you take the freshening up or some will think you tried to make another Graffiti clone. You may want it to show some age so people know it was built before the movie. Just my $.02.

    Congradulations.

Ok you guys you are keeping me excited and moving along on this so i keep doing a little everyday , so heres a pic of the wheels I went with a off white eggshell color am going to add some trim rings and dog dish of some sort but want to find some used ones in decent shape for the patina to keep the look of what the car truly is right?? I can barely make out something on door maybe numbers??? Look at pic;)

F&J Ik what you mean I just have to get the brakes working first as i was waiting for parts for motor IE Waterpump, carbs, fuel log, and scoops all should be here soon. Trying to get the right stuff.

Fordcpe Thanks Ik there general jumbos yours look good and these may in the day but there gone to far to use and not correct here.

Mart I am learing as i go this is my first build per say i have been a circle tracker for 25 years, and just getting up to speed with this stuff. Thanks for the info i will look at my options again this car was built over 46 years ago from what I can tell and the info I have.

Pensive scribe I feel the same way I am going to keep things like they are for awhile and down the road if i decide to do it over I will if not i wont. I would like to keep it as close too the time period and actual build as possible though

    Steve,
This is some great advice. I totally agree with you.

    Dave,
I'm really digging what you've done to your car so far! The wheels look really nice. Keep this pace up and you will be tearing up your hometown streets in no-time!

Ford mike I really liked the Model A and wish i couldve just put it away but i needed to free up some cash for other things aswell and then this deal came up I HAD TOO!! right?? I was able to work the other stuff out. The guy who bought it is on board here now His friends don`t like his new car.... But i hope he keeps with it. It will be a cool car even though he wants to go back up with the chop a little cause its illegal..

That`s what i was hoping to hear from you Aaron and the same from Devon. I can`t wait to be tearing it up with this and see some of the friends i made hear on the Hamb. I know one thing everytime i get to work on this car it`s been like 90 + freaking hot but ik it will be all worth it in the end. Another thing you guys should look forward to is I took 216 pics of the car before i did anything to it and i mean even touched anything!! So you can all see what i have started with and to see what i should change. I am trying not to steal to many ideas from your cars and do my own thiung but its` damn hard with all the Bitchin` cars here.

For the record I sincerly want to thank Sheldon Bardin, It was his friendship that i was able to gain over the past 3 years or so here on the HAMB and him flipping this car to me through a e-mail. And when we both saw it we said man that must be already gone but as fate would have it I ended up with the car. THANK YOU SHELDON it has been a pleasure getting to know you over the past few years and was great spending some time with you @ LARS. I`m tempted to move out to cali after the trip out there!

I hope i dont get in trouble for being a post whore lol i feel like a kid on christmas morning wanting to share my gifts with my pals lol Here`s a little something until next time.

that is a cool hotrod,I think I'd check out that wiring before you hook up a battery

  26. Dave,

That is a great find. Kudos for taking advnatage of an opportunity.

I did notice one thing that would worry me. The steering arm on the left spindle looks like it has been welded on to a later spindle. I would not trust that car and possibly my life on a weld done by who knows who, who knows when, and who knows how. I would either magnaflux the weld or have someone I trust to grind out and reweld. (on second thought, I would just do the latter)

Keep posting pictures. There are lots of us watching this with great interest.

I am going to look into the steering arm, i knew it was sketchy i can magnaflux it so atleast i will do that but will most likely change it. Or just redo it. The wireing is really sketchy i mayjusr tidy it up but i also may just redo it but i want to keep it old skool

    Very cool car,

the change of wheels and a multi carb intake are just what it needed.

if you start to paint and detail too much stuff its gonna loose some of it charactor.

Not happy with that at all! I wanted to have this thing running by now but with work and having to stay with the G/F for 5 days while she was in hospital for some surgery for cancer :( It has put me behind but thats way more important right now.
