Does any one know if this is possible? A friend has a LWB 49 Stud 3/4 ton truck with the entire running gear from a late model Suburban (454) but we want to cut it down to a SWB. Its still on the origional frame also.

    Thanks.

Sweet. Any tips on getting it done? Did you do a thread or got some notes? First time try on this for me.

I have done many truck 4x4 conversions in the past and the best tip I can offer when cutting a frame to shorten it is to cut it at about a 45 degree angle. DO NOT cut it vertical at 90 degress or it will stress crack. After you do the 45 degree cut, add a "fish plate" on the inside of the frame and "skip weld" it all together. DO NOT weld it all in one shot. Most of the semi truck mfgrs. use this method also. Good luck and make sure you measure 3 times before you start cutting!

when you do the bed drill out the spot welds on the end caps and cut to size and spot weld them back in the easyest bed to shorten by far

It may be awhile before this one moves. He said he saw on the internet where one sold all fixed up for $84,000.00 Then I told him a short bed just sold on ebay for $2K bare bones with no motor. He didnt like that much.

    Heres some pics.
