I picked this up and think it would make a great hot rod dash by replacing the original gauges with SW's. The 80 MPH speedometer already is a SW with P33433 on the mounting bracket Any ideas what it came from originally. Almost the same size as a '32 Ford insert.
It could also be from a Diana, (also from moon) as Moon was scripted as shown. Not sure if the above mentioned 6-60 was or was not scripted or what color it should be but the instrument cluster is from a 27ish Moon/Diana . .
Nah, I've got all kinds of useless trivia floating around. Like Reverend Jim from Taxi, sometimes I have to say "where the hell did that come from" when I quote something.
I think the face on his has been replaced, hence no Moon name. Diana's were more upscale and had more gauges usually
Do you know the year of this one? '27 also? -I have a large collection of instrument clusters and keep a file of pics to help ID stuff when it comes along. I'd like to add this pic to my files, just need confirmation of the year/s. Thanks, moe .
The bezel looks similar to what I have, could be a higher end Moon or a later model.. The glass in my Moon cluster is surprisingly thick at 1/4"~. There was an amazing diversity of instrument clusters during the 20's. One thing I have learned is that the actual bezel and backing are often company and/or model specific. Seldom did the manufacturer run the same cluster for 2 years in a row without changing it's shape or the shape/size of gauges inside. Many models of a car could be found in each calender year and often times the color of the faceplate, or the material it was made from would be different in that year but for the most part, the bezel didn't change until the following year/model was introduced. It looks like you may have a +/- '27 Moon/Diana style housing, the round hole for the speedo may indicate that it's a year or so newer but it defiantly looks like a Moon/Diana product. jmho moe .
You DO realize that the MOON & DIANA were made right here in St. Louis, right ? At one time there were a jillion Independents (yes, that's a correct mathematical number) that were produced in St. Louis. And after the indies passed away, Ford, GM, and, Chrysler made this area one of the biggest producers in the country. In fact, the 'Vette's were produced here for decades until they moved to Bowling Green, Ohio. Nice find, fcarnut ! BTW: Both Moon & Diana are often sought out by local collector's...but are super-rare to find. Jonnie King www.legends.thewwbc.net

I think we need to start a sort of museum/archive thread enshrining those "What is it?" enquiries that no one on the HAMB can answer...if we can find any! The historical range of this community's knowledge is absolutely astounding. Diana, LLoyd, Citroen, Rockne...nothing seems out of range on here! By the way, somewhere I have a book that attempts to list all known car companies in the USA from earliest times. It has more than 3,000 entries... And--I would bet someone on here can identify the gauges from a "Seven Little Buffalos" car, if it had an gauges.
