I just brought home my 1963 C. It was free but of course it cost bout $100 in gas. It has more bondo than metal but ill have to remove the bondo to see what route ill go. If its not bad ill make a clean custom but if its bad ill make a full out custom. Oh and its a long bed so it will have to be cut down. Something like this if its bad, but with cleaner lines and flakes.
You going to leave it a 3/4 ton or change it over to half ton? I had one of a similar body style that was a pretty good old truck about ten years ago.
swap to a half ton. I'm trying to find a rending i saw a while back that looked like that ratty truck in the pic. It was skinny whites, supremes and i believe it was an orange metal flake. they also grafted the cat eye hood into the cowl.
361524... I'll never forget it either, a mechanic who was teaching me when I was a kid told me how to remember it: "36 is too old, 15 is too young, 24 is just right".
153624 is how most folks say the firing order. Definitely not a 235 engine, it could be a 230 or a 250, there should be a number series stamped on it on the machined pad the distributor goes into, if you post that we can figure it out. Like was mentioned, it's a 3/4 ton, which would be a C20 if it's a Chevy, or a 2500 if it's a GMC. Should be a VIN tag on the driver door jamb somewhere, see what it says.
double headlights can be found in earlier c10's or the GMC models....look at....http://dennischevytruckparts.com/.....hes got it all!!!
check the motor mounts and if the p***enger side is further foward it's a 292. 230,250 mounts are even straight across same a sbc.
Congrats man, these are great rucks, my pal 2nd chance on here had one that was super cool. The gold one in the rendering is super hot. Welcome to the wonderful world of Chevy six's, the 250 is a great mill. Good luck with the project. ~sololobo~
I would stay with the long bed myself. I have owned a ton of both and lowered the long bed is the bomb, or rad or *****in' or whatever I am supposed to say here. Those lamp in the brown truck with the corvette grill are probably Corvette or impala, at least that is my best guess. '59 or '60 Plymouth Savoy would make a good donar for lights also. I can imagine doing the butch route to it to make it look like the inspirational drawing but if it were me I would not unless I absolutely had to. You can buy any panel up to and including a complete repop body for those now. I may leave it 3/4 ton even if I dropped it and customized it. It would be different and wheels are not that hard to come by. Even if you run custom wheels ( I hope you don't rin hoops on it) all those lug nuts in chrome would look pretty cool. An Eye catcher. Free is good and you can't get a better body that the early '60s C series GM truck. Good score. On the topic of the original wheels and hubs, I have seen a heavy hauler built by Ken Howard back in the day. It was complete with bud wheels and all striped. I always liked that truck. Granted Dutch was a little off center but you had to be to run with the pack he ran with.
Also the 292 is a taller engine (1.75" difference), the one in this truck looks like the shorter one.
