I'm going to get started on my model a coupe and this is the axle under it. It use to be at one time an old drag car, last registered in the early 60's. I'm kicking around selling this axle and going with one with more drop, but would like to figure out what it is first and decide if I'm going to keep or sell it. Thanks for all your help guys.

It's '46-'47. Square spindles, dog leg in the wishbones. '48 would have the shock mount in the axle itself.

The axle by itself is worth maybe 20-30 bucks?

Not to change the subject slightly, but I should be able to use the spindles on a superbell axle while using the 42 to 48 king pins?

That is correct but you can do it with an original Model A axle as well. SuperBell sounds kinda pricey to me.

  8. Yes.

The steering arms will have to be heated and bent if you keep the wishbones. Not necessary if you use hairpins.

You will also need a 28-34 spring, perches and shackles. Depending on how you set up the steering you may need a hairpin steering arm as well.

Your rod will look better and ride/drive better with the dropped axle upgrade.

Ya I hear you. They are a bit pricey. I've found alot of other dropped axles out there that look just as good quality for alot less. Thanks again for all the help guys!!

That sounds good, I do have a set of original a wish bones so that helps. I think all im going to use on this set up is the spindles and get the correct spring, perches and shackles like you say. I haven't decided yet on the steering setup. Thanks much for the help and info

I would use this guy [IMO] and he would know what spring to get as I believe the spring can't just be a 28-34 but has to be for use with the axle [42-48] as perch bolts are farther apart
