Color Suggestions for the Wagon's Roof Please

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tony Bones, May 3, 2005.

  1. The body is staying its factory color, but I'm searching for the right color for the roof.

I've thought about silver w/ holographic flake, but I'd like to try something off the beaten path. Tangerine is the logical choice...but I'm leaving that one for Erik's (foresakenfew's) Pontiac.

Give me some ideas ladies and gentleman. I've got the HOK chip book, but would like to hear what you folks think. I'm leaning toward HOK Trublue right now. Photoshops are appreciated too.

Pic. to work from below...but it'll be lower and w/ Tru Spokes.

Chrome reverse, 2 1/4" whites, bellflower's, functional fenderwell dumps, bullet caps green HOK candy with green flake and white pearl with maybe silver flake for the roof. Thats what my wagon's going to look like.

    Tony,

Sorry for the poor photochop.. it was done quicker and dirtier than your mom in an alleyway. I just wanted to show you the color I'm thinking.

Silver or a lighter green with some pearl. White would work but I think your cars style can handle something else.

The car is big and being a long roof with lots of doors and pillars I think you need to stay somewhat conservative with what you do to the roof..

    my 2 cents

  6. You talk **** about my mom AND pee on my roof? Damn, you're ******** :)

Somebody throw orange juice orange at the roof. HOK does a nice Sunrise Pearl that's pretty much that color. It may rock over a silver flake base.

Kind of agree on using a little restraint on it. I had visions of panels, fish scales, etc....but I'm not so sure about all that.

as clean as that wagon looks

id paint the "top only" 'no pillars, leave them green.
paint the top a """dirty white full of flake!"""

if you want pink or orange to draw a ton of attention to yourself
either pull out a spark plug & drive it or buy an old "pink Mary Kay" car!

    Tony,

In the photo you posted, the base green color appears to be a little "washed out" for lack of a more technical term. Pale maybe? I don't think you'd want to pair that with a color that "pops" like a bright orange would. That's why I went with the pale gold color in my photochop.

Lay out some stripes in white and lace over your green then candy it with organic green. White with abolone flake would look killer too

    Here's a few others.

  19. Flat black it and paint the wheels red,add a visor too!LOL

I'd do it dark green with emerald flake.
    And leave the pillars/post alone.

BTW,I just got another one of these wagons.
Found it by fluke, the kid knew my wife years ago.
It'll be coming up for sale soon.

    Donnie,you'd look good driving it!.....Shiny

  20. Here's one a friend did for me quickly. He nailed the hue of orange perfectly. Kind of a creamsicle orange.

That said, I'm really digging Donnie's idea.

Burger, I agree w/ what you're saying on not wanting the color to pop too much.

Donnie, time to sell you daily driver and buy Shiny's wagon. Just think of the **** you could do to the roof. what a rolling business card.

Now back to the wagon about. The reason I chose a lighter color is if you use a dark roof color it makes it look taller as the roof stands out alot. If you go sublte from a distance the car will look lower but when you do get closer you will be able to see the detail. The abolony referenced above would also work. Best bet is to go look at all the wagons you like and find out what they have in common. Create a folder on the computer and save pic of all the wagons and other customs that have a similar look. you will notice a trend in what you like, that is what you should go with.

Tony, are there any colors in the interior that you could pick up on?

I'm kind of thinking that it would look good with a pearl off white top with thin candy green scallops pinstriped in pale orange. Or the whole roof candy green over flake with thin pearl white scallops and again, pinstriped in pale orange. The front would include three scallops, two close to the edge of the roof and one down the center going from front to rear. In the rear there would only be two scallops running from rear to front about an inch away from the front set. Then down the road if you decide that you want more, you could do some fishscale panels inside the confines of the scallops.

You could add some pale orange pinstriping to the hood, tailgate or roof pillars to get your orange on green fix.
