I'm in the middle of rebuilding the top end of my 57 cadillac and all the engine parts have been stripped. I was hoping to repaint it the original cadillac blue color but have been having a hard time finding the right color. The closest I can come to in the auto parts stores is the engine enamel paint, a dark blue which I think is referred to a "old ford blue". Its a relatively dark shade of blue very similar to the original cadillac. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
You can get the 'correct' color from Hirshch auto here: Early Cadillac blue but at $16 a can plus shipping I'd think the Ford dark blue was close enough - that's what I used in my '56.
Coopers is a great source for old Caddy parts, they sell the proper color paint http://www.coopersvintage.com/
I was always a rattle can paint guy for engines until I bought a qt of the Chevrolet engine paint from Bill Hirsch. It covered so well that I will not go back to rattle cans again. I've never tried the Bill Hirsch spray bombs but I highly recommend their engine paints sold by the qt. The difference is amazing.
